It's done!
To be honest, I've kind of surprised myself. As I started Seven Girls, Nine Hundred Forty-Three Miles, and One Minivan just a little over a week ago, based solely on a joke about gas station sushi. A over twenty two thousand words, it's the longest piece of pony fic I've written, beating out Friendship is More than Meets the Eye by about a thousand or so. Which, admittedly, pales in comparison to enormous million-word epics like Fallout: Equestria or whatever, but still.
I'm still a little impressed with myself that I was able to crank out a story of that length in such a short period of time. I'm hoping I can keep that kind of writing pace up, maybe apply it to some original work.
Funny thing is, now that I've hit the 'complete' button, I'm still reminded of a few little bits and pieces that I didn't include. Bits like:
Applejack breaking out a mason jar full of moonshine during the camping trip.
More Rarijack-ish stuff in general, like having the two of them pass out exhausted in the back of the van, snuggled up together.
Maybe another joke or two about Pinkie Pie not wearing pants, but I didn't want to make the story too raunchy.
Other roadside stops at various touristy trap places.
Which ... well, if I ever write a sequel/follow up, I'll have some material to work from. I still had a great time playing around in the Equestria Girls sandbox-- they're more or less the same characters I'm used to writing, but it's a lot easier to envision them picking things up and moving around and otherwise being, well, people. That, and being able to use modern technology like phones and cars and stuff let me take the story off in a completely different direction I wouldn't have been able to go in otherwise.
This is also the first time I've written Discord! He's fun. The fact that I got a couple of comments that complained about how mean he was kind of tickles me, in a dark way. He is an antagonist, after all.
So yeah! It's been a heck of a ride, and I hope all of you guys enjoyed reading! Go, tell your friends, get some of those reviewer ponies on it, comment, hit the like button, whatever. I'm not sure if the story's quite 'Featured Box' material, but at least it's something different from a lot of the 'Twilight touches someone on the butt' stuff that pops up in the feed so often.
I've got no idea what I'm working on next, but one way or another, I'll keep you posted. Stay tuned!
I gotta tell you, I am really disappointed that it's over. It was a good story, but I want more road trip antics. It's entirely up to you, but this story is begging for a sequel about the trip back.
Definitely looking forward to anything else you have planned in this universe, sequel or otherwise.
Hey man, great job on this story, I really like it a lot and that surprises me since only one other author I know of writes EqG stories that I enjoy. I do find it amusing people thought Discord was being mean in this story, because if you look at all he's done.. .well he really was on his best behavior here. He's done meaner things in the show than he did here. No one had their shape/form changed unwillingly, no one was mind controlled... no food turned UXO left about for bystanders, heck he didn't even ask for a glass of water.
