Windows 10 · 3:11pm Mar 15th, 2016
I want to upgrade to Windows 10, but I'm afraid to. You see, when I upgraded before during the trial run, I couldn't open up my word documents, AT ALL. This meant I couldn't use the new Microsoft Edge they were advertising, or Libra Office. It just said that I was missing a particular program, but every time I tried to download it, it wouldn't register and I ended up going back to Windows 8.
But it's at a point now where I'm having trouble with Windows 8, and they stopped support for Windows 8 now (I believe), so I'm at a point where I have no choice BUT to upgrade, but if I can't do my work on it, then what's the point?
Anyone reading this post, do you have Windows 10 now? Did you have the same problem I had before, and do you know if they fixed it? If they did, let me know so I can upgrade to Windows 10 now.
i don't have windows 10
A friend of mine had that problem. Apparently it was some .exe file that lets the system read stuff saved on it that got moved or corrupted after upgrading. I don't know if he went back, but some of my classmates didn't seem to have that problem. Try upgrading again and ask tech support (I think that's what they're called). But it depends, are you upgrading with the installation disk or download?
I have windows ten, only a few bug for me but i fixed them
I have two computers, one running Windows 10 and one running Windows 7. Haven't had any trouble so far with 10, but with the issues you mentioned you experienced, I wouldn't recommend diving head-first into it. Can you run virtual machines in your current computer? If so, maybe you should run one with windows 10 to test it before a full install.
Alternatively, if you have multiple hard drives or an external hdd, you could install windows 10 in a separate partition and see if it works.
Your options are as follows:
-Pay for a newer version of office.
-Switch to Google Drive.
-Contact tech support.
-Download a free Office program from the internet.

3809230 Ah. Try loading other stuff (videos, apps, app store, etc) and see if they work. I would recommend looking for the file it keeps "missing" when it upgrades and take note of its location. Then try your documents. If it still doesn't work, go to the same place you saw the file and look for said file. If it isn't there, then search for it/download it, depending on the circumstance, and save it in that same location it was before you upgraded. Hopefully, that should work.

Quite honestly, I stopped using MS Office when I discovered Google Drive and Google Docs and it's been what I've been using whenever I upload to this site (primarily because this site has support for Docs) or any other project of mine. I found it to be pretty user friendly and you can access Drive from virtually any device and make changes to them on mobile devices, not just your computer, useful if you don't have access to your computer.
That's just me though. From my personal experience, I've been using Windows 10 since November and I personally like it over 7, with a few exceptions here and there. I have not personally used Windows 8, so I can't really say anything about that. But are you specifically using Windows 8 or 8.1? Support did end for 8, but not for 8.1 and shouldn't for some time.
If you want to try Windows 10 without installing it though, you have a few options. The method most easy and the method I'd recommend most is using a virtual machine like VirtualBox. Make sure you verify the integrity download file to prevent an MiM attack. After that, all you really need is a disk image file or ISO for Windows 10 which you can get in a number of ways, also making sure to verify its integrity. Another method I'd recommend is using a live USB.
Just switch. Worst case scenario you can always just use Google Docs to open and convert the docx files to something more universal like txt or something free like gdoc.
Like a few others said, just switch to Google Docs, it's easier, the auto correct is a bit more advanced, and all you need is Internet, you don't lose it if you lose your computer.
