Group plug? Story plug? Whatever! Still fun.

As I mentioned in the last blog post, I have joined a new group: Word of the Week Quickfic Challenge. To summarize, the group moderator – Deli – finds a new obscure word every week and posts it as a prompt for that week's contest; the writers' job is to write a little story inspired by that word within the five-day time limit. I figured it'd get the creative juices flowing again, and maybe be a barrel of fun along the way. I was right; I am having fun, and the first of the group's weekly challenges immediately inspired me to write a little something: Luna, Interrupted.

The thing is, it was only ever just a quickfic; I didn't think it'd be a story worth talking about. Story length was capped at four thousand words, which is half the length of even my shortest story so far, and you and I both know how wordy I can be. In addition, it was supposed to be a comedy. I guess people think I can be funny sometimes, but... Meh. Anyway, I'm kinda surprised by the response to it so far. I thought it'd be really, really, really awful. Thanks for proving me wrong! Almost everyone has enjoyed it so far, and it even won that first little contest!

I'm not saying I'm going to be back to my old writing speed, but I've been a bit more creatively inclined lately. Just figured some of you would like to know. Things are looking up!

Well, I think I'll be helping Deli judge the next contest instead of taking part myself. I hope to see some of you there!
