Post Con Blues (mostly very bright, cheery blues, but blues nonetheless). · 12:55am Feb 18th, 2016
Okay, first off, I said chapter 18 would be out this week. That was said without taking into account that this week would be short. Because of the holiday it would be only 4 days instead of 5. I loose one of those to snow removal. I could finish the chapter in my remaining three days, but I would have to ignore the other convention I'm going to this weekend. This is a LARP con, and I'm in 4 mini-games and I have to work on (study character sheets, prepare minimal costuming, stuff...). And I have to write this blog. So chapter 18 moves back to next week. But on the plus sign, it isn't falling behind because I have no writing discipline and I'm just not writing anything - the chapter won't be done because I genuinely ran out of time. That's progress, isn't it? Next week. No, really, I mean it this time.
The convention was great. Even giving my workshop was pretty good. I only had a crowd of about 20, but that's 19 more people than I expected. About.
I did have a bad moment when I asked the crowd "Do any of you think that coming up with ideas is hard?" I've done something like my workshop at local libraries and that attracts a the "I'll think I'll write someday, when I have more time..." type. They all think ideas are the hard part. So, my focus is on convincing the audience that ideas are the easy part. My idea savvy fimfiction crowd are a bit different. Only one guy put his hand up, and he only put his hand up half way and he made a face as if to say "Gee, ideas aren't that hard, but they are kinda hard...ish." So I was there with a bag full of ideas that my audience did not need. But they enjoyed it anyway. Everyone at least chuckled a bit when I thought I was being funny, and I'm pretty sure no one will complain to the convention organizers about me. I may even bid another workshop for next year.
The drive home was horrible, because New Jersey and Pennsylvania don't seem to ever plow their roads. I did not see any sign of plowing until I got back to New York. On the plus side, my snow plow started, so I'm not trapped by my driveway this year (yay).
I am feeling very, very good about this. 9/10 would do again.
Ideas aren't always easy but they're a lot easier than good writing.
Maybe now you'll stop never replying to me.
Cool.
3761749 I never reply? No, surely I reply half the time. At least a third of the time... Oh, dear. Sorry about that.
