    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Birthday Bios: Winter Mist · 3:51pm Feb 5th, 2016

It's not very often you get this see a smile on this mare's face. Usually, she's looking at ponies like they're idiots.

Winter Mist was born on a cold, snowy day in the seaside town of Halterside. Having a thicker coat than most other ponies and not shedding it in warmer weather, summer coming around was not very fun for the tiny filly. As a result, she was a very unhappy baby who cried a lot--until the first snow.

Growing up, her Hearth's Warmings were usually spent with family members in the north, whether it be grandparents living in a tiny village near the Crystal Mountains, or with her aunt, her uncle, and her cousin, Coco Pommel, in Manehattan. It was obvious that she felt most at home during the winter, with the most heat she allowed being a mug of hot chocolate. Back in Halterside, it was always a delight when the neighbor stallion, Noble Metal, would give her some of his special mix.

While she did like Noble Metal and his wife, she thought their kids were weird. Their eldest daughter, Platinum Pen, showed little emotion; their second, Pearly Whites, was a fussy neat freak; their only son, Silver Shill, was a timid nerd with a habit of pouting; and then there was Comedy Gold, their youngest. Winter absolutely loathed that filly, being too loud and obnoxious for her tiny size, popping up anywhere and anytime in unlogical ways, and just doing everything that didn't make sense.

The worst part was that Goldie always came at the worst times, startling Winter when she was in the middle of something. The older siblings always had to drag her back home, the two middle children being rather sheepish about it as Winter glared. With with how weird Goldie was, Winter considered going to a world record committee and presenting them with "the world's strangest filly."

She looked forward to her winter trip up north every year--though once, when she was eleven, her extended family visited her house for Hearth's Warming. Winter felt a duty to show her cousin Coco around, telling her about the beach, the seashells, and the crown jewel of Halterside, the lighthouse. She even took her to the Halterside Hearth's Warming Festival and taught her how to ice skate. Though, with Noble Metal's recent death, Winter was disappointed that Coco couldn't try Halterside's best hot cocoa--but Silver Shill ended up taking the role of running that cocoa stand. Winter didn't have any, thinking it wouldn't be the same, though Coco did say it was delicious. She was also rather confused when Coco and Silver formed a friendship.

Even though she grew used to summer with her thick coat, she was still not happy with the heat. When her family would spend a day at the beach, she made sure to let everyone know how much she hated sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating, and it gets everywhere. Winter especially hated having to scrub it out of her fur during bathtime at home. She also hated the ocean as well, as it was smelly and always washed up random junk on the shore. She found it gross to swim in, especially when she ran into seaweed.

At age twelve, during a trip to her grandparents' village, she and her cousin went sledding in the hills. In guiding a sled to save Coco from a fall that likely would have crippled (or even killed) her, Winter earned her cutie mark, and realized that her talent was in winter sports. Her talent involving snow filled her with so much glee, and she had more reason to look forward to winter every year.

Spring, summer, and fall had her filling up the time with school and other pursuits as she grew up. She took to exploring the Foal Mountains whenever her family went camping in them, reading adventure novels (especially about Daring Do), and found herself enjoying makeovers and dress-up with her cousin.

Upon adulthood, she joined a winter sport committee, and was happy to go around and check up on the functioning ski resorts and ice rinks, as well as provide funding for new ones. She deemed herself lucky when the first place she traveled to was the Salt Lick Valley, known in Equestria for having a fine powder that was absolutely perfect for skiing, with the locals boasting about how it was the greatest snow in Equestria. After the initial check-up, she decided to test the snow for herself.

She got into two kinds of trouble at one point when she went out of bounds--she received a strike from her superiors for doing so, but she had also gotten caught in an avalanche. She was lucky that one teenager hanging out with a group of friends rushed in to save her. For other ponies, it was suicide, but for a party pony, it was an opportunity to show off some sick moves in surfing the rolling snow. He slid in on a sled, dove straight down into the snow to retrieve her, and then breached out and landed in the sled to surf his way back out.

Winter was thankful to the adolescent--a quirky boy named Bananas--but was also rather horrified that there was another like Comedy Gold in Equestria. Seeing as she had already met two of these strange ponies with a penchant for defying logic, she wondered if there was more of them.

Her job went on as always, and she kept on discovering that yes, there were more party ponies. A break at home during the summer had her attending the Halterside Town Days, which instead of being set up by Comedy Gold (who had recently had surgery and was instructed not to work herself too hard) was set up by a visitor named Cheese Sandwich. Checking out a prospective ski resort at a little village with the rest of her committee had her coming across another named Party Favor, and she ended up having to deliver a letter to his sister.

Aside from meeting odd ponies like them and others, Winter still enjoys her job, and checking out the slopes of all of Equestria.
