So I decided today to post my Rainbow Dash flying speed findings on Reddit, and in doing so I noticed a really big, stupid mistake I made.
Remember how 28mph sounded really slow?
Well, it turns out I accidentally counted the time per lap as 11 seconds, but looking at the footage again it's more like 4. I have no idea how that happened, but I'm really surprised none of us caught it sooner.
Anyway, adjusting all the math, the whole 500 laps actually only took 33 minutes or so, instead of an hour and a half like I said before, and their speed was actually 77mph, which makes a lot more sense.
So now I have a pickle. (And I hate pickles.) I did this research originally to use for the big cross-country flight in Minoan Crisis, so I gave them a pace of 20mph to be safe.
I guess it still kind of works if pacing is that much different between a week of flying and half an hour, and it makes sense that Lightning Dust would feel like that was really slow. So I'm not going to go back and ret-con anything for this, but for all of you who were interested in this stuff, I'm sorry and I really hope you read this.
They'd be camping, resting, and stopping to eat I'm sure. It once took a week to traverse the US in like a 50mph train
3721339 Yeah, they flew in three-hour stretches with breaks in between. Though with four stretches per day I'm almost wishing I made them even more exhausted at the end, even with such a slow pace.
