    New Story out now!

Hey everyone! Remember that thing I said I'd be doing a while back? Well... Here it is!

    Hey guys! What's new?

So, I haven't been here in a good long while. I got the writing itch a while back, specifically for ponies and my old Betaverse fics. I might have something in the pipeline. I've got a few questions I'd like to ask the general pony-reading audience if you don't mind. Just so I can see if my writing style should be tweaked a bit for the modern audience.

    Stardrop's Lackluster Ending

Hello everyone. I know I've been away for a while, but that's due to me deciding to finish stories before I post them to revise, edit, and alter them to give you all better stories to read. I don't feel free to do so when I post stories live. This results in me getting frustrated with how a story is shaping up and then dropping it. That wasn't a problem when I was younger, but it's become one as

Anyone know artists who do illistrations for stories?

I'm low key working on a story which I intend to complete before posting. I'm enjoying being able to go back and improve, tweak, and change things to make the best possible version of the story, and it's nice to not feel like I am bound to a strict schedule of uploads.

A metatextual analisis of "The Bureau: XCOM Declassified" to show how it fits in the series timelines

A lot of people like the rebooted XCOM series, and a lot of people also insist its lore is bad/nonexistent. This isn't true in my opinion, but is the product of the game that sets up the world for the series having been released a year after the first game in the series as a prequel, and also it sucks ass to play. The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is not a good game. At all. The story is really good,

Worldbuilding - Plate armor dosen't impair you. · 3:12pm Jan 8th, 2016

Just thought I would debunk a common myth about fullplate. Yeah, if you're physically fit it only BARELY hampers your speed and agility. In fact chainmail hampers it more because the chain will bunch up much like cloth and reduce your range of motion, while fitted platemail is designed in such a way as to accommodate your specific and exact movements.

Awesome. It's fine though, only one of my stories has ponies in armor like that. :rainbowwild:

3672387 Yeah ponies tend to prefer Half Plate, if guard armor is in fact, armor, and not just a uniform aka Storm Trooper Armor (It's not actually protective armor. Trooper armor is realy just environmental suits with a hard shell so when pressurized for a vacuum they dont make a larger target as the suit bulks up.)

We do see proper fullplate in Castle Mania though, so in canon ponies at least had and used fullplate at one point.

3672388 Yeah way to many people don't know this factoid :P

3672394 In my D&D story, Applejack wears the heavy armor. Twilight could, being a cleric, but will probably just stick with robes. :rainbowlaugh:

I think it effects your recovery from movements more than it effects the movements themselves, one would have to exert more strength to stop a movement to begin another in plate compared to leather or other types of light armour. But I guess with enough skill, you could fluidity movements to make them flow into each other so the recovery times aren't affected so much.

The biggest Issue with the Royal Guard is they appear to be wearing gold. This may be the case in the show, but in headcanon I believe it's probably gold plated steel or some sort of alloy. Gold is great against weathering and corosion but it's too soft to be the main component for full body armour. Gold plated alloy would not only have a signature aesthetic and look magnificent, but would have a nice middle-ground between durability and strength.

Though personally, I would mix chain mail and plate. A mail under-suit with your vital areas coated with thin angled plate would be great for general combat and movement.

3672465 Yeah there is no way in hell the guard's armor is realy gold. It could be bronze that's been polished, or simply guided steel. Or it could be a metal unique to the MLP universe. Whatever it is, it's clearly not meant for war. It leaves far to many vital spots exposed for that. It's mostly likely the pony equivalent to a cop's bullet proof vest, just something cops use to make their jobs a bit more safe and thus intended to stop civilian accessible weapons. Because TBH, the Royal Guard seems more like police officers and security personnel than soldiers.

Hmmm This was actually very informative. you have to be very strong to move like that in full armor though. Im more partial to chainmail to due to weight concerns, but its been shown to mesh well with plate. I have to say This was an eye opener for me.

3672600 Not really. Full plate isn't terribly heavy, I've actually worn backpacks that were heavier while hiking. The trick is that the weight is distributed across your body. Yes it will all eventually weigh down to your legs, but your center of mass should stay relatively the same and the individual limbs are only moderately weighted inertia wise. Really the increased inertia and slight mass gain isn't overall that intense on the body. Not to mention the plate are fitted to the body so that they move with your joints and are barley restrictive at all. You will want to be in good shape if you're gonna wear it but you don't need to be a body builder or anything (in fact that would probably cause a mobility detriment), just in decent or better athletic shape will do.

Hmm. Interesting. Though I'll stick with bloodbornes mobility.

3673160 Just trying to increase your knowledge, you madman you. :trixieshiftleft:

3672600 Chainmail actually weighs more than plate armor. Also you don't have to be as strong as you think.

3672472 Given that ponies have cartoon durability, I imagine the Royal Guard armor is just for show. :rainbowlaugh:

Also, thank you for posting that video; the weird ideas people have about what medieval gear was like is kinda maddening. :facehoof:

3673646 Hey! Only Derpy's insane durability gets a pass in my book Mister! ... Because she's adorable!

Hmm ok. Thanks for the information I was thinking on trying into getting into some of the battle of nations stuff.. This has given me something to consider.

I will shove this video down everones faceholes, thank you.

3676273 Thank you very much. I freaking HATE the plate armor myths so much.

3676286 I actually am very disturbed by both the lack of knowledge and unwillingness that people show when you try to (politely) tell them what they know is wrong.

I don't want to have to rhetoric my friends for them to believe me:ajbemused:
