Inquisitor M

Why 'Inquisitor'? Because 'Forty two': the most important lesson I ever learned. Any answer is worthless until you have the right question. Author, editor, critic, but foremost, a philosopher.

So you want to write betterer...

Just thought I'd quickly advertise the latest Humble Bundle of ebooks on writing. I've no idea how good any of them are, but if you're interested, you can't go far wrong with the price.

    New Directions

I could do the whole 'here's my update' skit, but to be quite frank, I'm just going to ask for clicks. The long and the short of it is that medication is working out very well, I have a job lined up through a special back-to-work scheme that is going well so far, and a new game is coming out in a couple of months that has finally gotten me enthused about writing again.

    Reading: Three Solos, One Cadence

I may have assumed that this project had fallen by the wayside since it's been so long. And, of course, I have been somewhat otherwise-occupied recently. Imagine my surprise when fifty-eight minutes of some of my best character writing popped up in my inbox. The background music choices make this absolutely sublime. Whether you have read the original or not, this is well worth a listen.

Blimey! It's only some good news! · 8:28pm Dec 16th, 2015

Firstly, AShadowOfCygnus seems to have returned from his temporary incarceration by aliens (though I can't promise he has returned with the same number of limbs) and finished off his reading of Pride that I have been eagerly anticipating. Aside from the usual quality of the reading and Cygnus's aptitude for capturing drama, I found this one particularly useful for seeing how the pacing is very much off for the second half of the story.

Secondly, I have engaged in voluntary employment with a team going by the name 'Board in the City'. They are taking boardgames into nearby schools for lunchtimes and special days to help promote gamecraft, thinking skills, and social aptitude. Soon they hope to be moving into after-school clubs, and next year they're planning to open a boardgame cafe. With luck, there will be some paid position available in a few months, but for now, it is a welcome breath of fresh air just to be working with people doing something good where it feel like my skills are in high demand. And it's not just my gaming credentials or background in child development and psychology, I'm already involved in helping them put together a bid for grants and assessing options for the planning stage of the cafe.

As far as voluntary work goes, this would be hard pressed not to be perfect for me. I'm sure I'll even get to flex my writing skills here and there!

Lastly, that last project I had in mind has been rolling around in my head since I mentioned it. I've thrown a few ideas at some folks and largely gotten positive responses to the idea. Now, when I say positive responses, I want you to appreciate that some of that positivity is likely based on the sheer absurdity of the plan.

This is a terrible idea.

It shouldn't work.

It probably won't work.

But it'll be fun anyway.

Sometimes, in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is just lonely.

It's sillier than you can possibly imagine, and it may have involved planning the entire cosmology of the MLP world.

Stand by.

That final project certainly sounds intriguing, but mostly I wanted to speak up to say that that board game project just sounds damn cool. Kudos to you for volunteering, and to them for such a nifty vision! How'd you run across them?

3622671 I cross paths with a lot of boardgame players and groups anyway, but a friend of mine invited me to a one-off boardgame night they ran as a sort of meet-and-greet and got filled in on the general strategy. I was still pretty low at the time, but when I started feeling better last week I gathered my wits and pestered the Facebook contact I had for info on volunteering.

So it's pretty much all friends of friends kind of stuff. Sent a message on Tuesday, went over to have a chat with them on Thursday, and went for a trial run yesterday. By that evening I got a call saying 'we could use a hand with this presentation tomorrow, are you free?'

It just went from there. Things will go quiet for Christmas now, but come Jannuary things will get brutal!

Nice to hear from you. I'm not sure your new writing project will be something I enjoy, but the other news is great!

Maaaan, I'm kinda wanting to dust off my X-Prize idea now. <.< It's pretty thoroughly S1 though, I don't know that I could make it work anymore.

True story.

I, for one, am looking forward to this. :pinkiehappy:

Board games! What a wonderful idea. Reminds me actually a little bit of the inner-city equestrian riding club that the Descendent donates to.

3623075 this X Prize was an actual thing?

From back in 2011! It hung around for a while and no one ever submitted a story. :B
