1) Just published my first "mature" rated fic, listed as such for the... I shall use the term, "unromantic" depiction of warfare. Blood, death, despair, yadda.
2) I have/had plans for another one-shot based on "All Quiet on the Western Front," debatably the most depressing book ever put forward by the Western World.
3) I sat down with the intent of constructing an outline, and then recalled that I am writing about goddamn cartoon ponies.
I am better at writing drama. My profession as an ICU nurse and my reading preferences (that include, you know, "All Quiet") give me ample inspiration regarding the grimmer side of life. When it comes to MLP, though, my consumption flips. My writing leans to the sad and dark, but what I read is the light comedy, and the adorable nonsense that is slice of life. Even the high adventure, the little romances, and the challenges of well-intentioned politics. I like my cute ponies being cute ponies, and doing cute pony things.
I'm working on a drama now, though I don't think it's a soul-crushing one (based on Beethoven's Last Night, for you TSO fans). But I'm gonna try to craft a light comedy as well. Not a one-shot, but a multi-parter. Something to make me swallow my ego, knowing it's not as good as my drama, but also knowing that I'm writing something I'd actually like to read.
It's either going to be Harshwhinny becoming an alicorn or Principal Celestia hunting the undead... presuming that this introspection outlives the evening, of course.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch "Look Before you Sleep."
"2) I have/had plans for another one-shot based on "All Quiet on the Western Front," debatably the most depressing book ever put forward by the Western World." FOE replaced it. I would say Pinkeyes too.
I see no reason why you can't manage both in the same story.
