Feedback - Friendship games plus an important question. · 1:28am Sep 30th, 2015

So I've seen Friendship Games as of a few days ago. I'm not going to spoil the movie here for anyone that is unfortunate enough to not have watched it yet. I will say though that Sunset Shimmer continues to be, for me at least, the best thing that has ever happened to the franchise. She is really good in this movie just as she was in the last one.

But what of Friendship Games itself? I loved it. I really did. But I don't think it was as awesome as Rainbow Rocks was. I found this movie had some flaws that were a little more glaring than the previous installment. The narrative felt a little less cohesive than the fight against the sirens, plus I also wish they had focused more on the Crystal Prep five as opposed to Principle Cinch. That being said, I really have to give the movie props for standing on its own without having to rely on the Equestrian Universe for anything.

Not that that is necessarily a perfect thing. I want pony Sunset really badly.

There's also a scene in the movie that has been driving me somewhat bananas: Sunset makes an egregious trig error. I've since been informed that the problem in question is actually a rather famous one due to its difficulty (even though it looks simple at first glance). While I'm not quite certain how she could have not gotten it, I'm a bit more okay with it now. Still though.

Plus, I think that she made a simple clerical error along the way. I want to say it was due to stress from not figuring out what made magic work in the human world, which was a major source of contention for her.

While I am talking about things that I think happened (and since I have no other place to put this), yes. I do, in fact, think that Principal Celestia went to the cafe at the end of Feedback.

And now I have an important question for you, my reader. I have, sitting in a document on my desktop, an outline for the sequel to Feedback. While I haven't officially started any work on it, I could write the story if so prompted. I imagine the story, while a little more action-and-adventure-oriented, would act somewhat like Feedback does. I know that some people found Feedback traumatizing (in a good way; they had nothing but praise for the story), and I think that this sequel, were I to write it, would be even more so.

So what do you think? Should I try to write this sequel? If I did, would you read it? Let me know in the comments below~

Go for it!
Feedback was great and although I'm not sure how you're gonna tie in a sequel, I'd love to read more of your work. :pinkiehappy:

SEQUEL. YES PLEASE. Not sure how that will work tho. You can't have twi go die on us again....

Maybe have some sort of mass scale invasion leaking from equestria? I dunno.

The trig trial was also a speed test, and I think neither had calculators. So both Sunset and Twi were doing sine and cosine functions in their heads (is that even possible??!).

So my impression is "Sunset made a calculation mistake under time pressure". Meh. She's brilliant, but not an android with a positronic brain like Twilight. It's okay. Einstein would have lost too, but Twilight still studies his equations.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but people have been studying trig since before calculators even existed, so I'm going to say yes.

Of course it falls on the test givers to provide problems that have reasonable solutions.

HELL YES!!! WRITE THIS SEQUEL RIGHT NOW!!!!

I've forgotten most of my trig, and my only memory regarding that is abusing the SIN and COS buttons on my little scientific calculator. :derpyderp2:

In my opinion, sure, do it. If you have fun at writing and want to give your fans something more to enjoy, do so.
However, without wanting to pressure you in any way, I just want to remind you that it would be sort of...sad, if it doesn't reach the quality of your first story. I have seen some other authors, who didn't want to write sequels to some awesome stories, just because of that.
Like I said, the decision is still yours and your enjoyment in writing stories stays the first priority.
So, if you ask me, I would say, go ahead and do so.

Go ahead and have fun with the sequel! You're one of the first writers I've seen on fimfiction who has managed to impress me with his/her very first story, and I can proudly say that I took notice of Feedback before it was featured on EQD or on the fimfiction front page. You have lots of potential, and I can't wait to see the sequel. Also, can you please put up a link to the trig question from the movie?

Here is the actual problem from the movie.

I actually started on trying out this problem yesterday although I didn't get too far (but in all fairness I was in a class and you shouldn't get distracted during class!) It says in the problem specification that this is, in fact, a geometry problem, not a trig problem. Trig solutions like sine and cosine are illegal when it comes to solving the problem.

Admittedly I would have been more impressed if they had calculated sine and cosine in their heads but supposedly this problem by itself is pretty difficult regardless.

I also wonder if that particular problem was at the end of a long list of math problems that the teachers had them solve for the games. I think there could have reasonably been more than what we saw in the movie~
