Feedback - An update on the adaptation · 8:31pm May 5th, 2022
Hi all!
I mentioned in my last blog post that I would be turning my sights onto adapting Feedback into an original setting. Since then, I have been working on that very goal and recently hit the halfway mark of drafting the story. And I've been sharing what I've written on my discord (link below).
The world of the adaptation does bear some immediate similarities with the story you are all familiar with; there are some things that I just can't imagine any other way.
The characters are based on the ones we all know and love, but there are some fresh twists and changes that make them stand out and fit well with the narrative I have in mind; the protagonist, Spell Weaver, is a reforming villain on probation who none of the other characters even like. And the setting, similarly based on the original, also has some cool things that make it unique. For instance, a large, fierce, but benevolent dragon rules the land. And equui, be they hippocamp, pegasus, or unicorn can perform magic. And the world is filled with monsters which is an aspect which drives a lot of the underlying plot.
This has required me to write a lot of new material. So I've also had the opportunity to apply all the skills I've built up in the years since I wrote the original. My technique has vastly improved in that time; Feedback was the first novel-length story that I ever wrote, and I've since written six more. I also am aware of some of the original's shortcomings and can account for those in this adaptation.
All in all, this adaptation has so far been a complete, from-the-ground-up rewrite of Feedback. And I think it's been going quite well so far.
