If he becomes the puppet, then that means his father (er, purple guy) killed him more than likely in mercy. The kid then brings his 'killers' (the children kinda were the cause of it) back to life either in remorse or revenge.
If he becomes Goldy, then that would mean that whomever became the puppet just did what they thought they had to do- gift each child the gift of life- of which means purple guy would've decided to end both of his sons lives at the same time
Honestly, I think both could do (unless the child lives) considering somepony- er, body, had to have become Goldy. But then again the Puppet fits too

This was my idea of the timeline
After Fredbear's family diner sells it's name to Fazbear entertainment the company makes a second spring suit 'spring bonnie' to act as a duo with Fredbear. After the bite of 87 with fredbear the purple guy becomes mortified at the coma induced state of his younger son. He blames Fazbear entertainment for his loss and wants revenge on the company. The Spring animatronics are not blamed because of misuse of them as a torture device. They are later decommissioned because of the Springlock incident. While driving by the scorned pizzeria Purple guy see's a child crying outside the facility. An idea hits him on how to ruin Freddy Fazbear pizza forever. He pulls over, murders the child, and drives off. He gets away but does not succeed. The company is not blamed for the murder because it didn't happen in the building and 'could have happened anywhere.' Because of this he tries a different approach. He invites his older son and friends over to the pizzeria they love so much for a get together to watch his favorite animatronic 'foxy'. He then takes a more personal revenge on his older son and his friends by murdering them. He feels this is sure to get the company shutdown and it would be hard for authorities to pin it on him due to the fact that his only remaining son was a victim. This however fails as well because of the Puppet. A seen in the give gifts give life mini game the Puppet stuffs the kids into the suits hiding them unintentionally. When the suits start bleeding and oozing mucus the company discovers the bodies but Fazbear intertainment is 'seedy' at best. They fail the heath company inspection but use the money they made from their popularity to buy an bigger complex and the Toy Animatronics. The purple guy sees this and is furious but figures 'third times the charm.' He sees the company is hiring and applies for the job of night shift. (this next part is even more speculation) due to the missing children incident purple guy may have been a suspect for a time and even though he was cleared of wrongdoing the fact that the case was never solved he might have been kept in the child offender database and attracted the attention of the Toys and they tried to apprehend him. He then complained about his situation and was moved to the day shift. He wasn't in the clear though because the Toys still pursued him so he needed to wear the Freddy mask to save his skin. He figured that because this place was so popular; killing more kids would be difficult and he would need to do it in the late hours of the night when few were around. He knew that he could only due this is the kids went willingly and that they were to young to understand to follow a man in a badge; they would only follow family or one of their beloved mascots. He learned that because of the parts in the suits he couldn't use them; all except one. The one that caused him so much misery. The one that started it all. Fredbear made his life hell; and now it was going to tare Fazbear entertainment apart. Purple guy waited until late into open hours and then dressed in Fredbear. He lured the children away and murdered them one by one. scatering their bodies so they would be discovered. He also took the opportunity to ruin the Toys by hacking their facial recognition system keeping him in the clear and hurting the company name even more. His plan worked. The bodies were discovered and the reputation of Fazbear entertainment was ruined beyond repair. They shutdown and scraped the toys, relocated to the old facility to make use in one desperate attempt in recovery. Purple guy knew that with this many murders and him being present and a past suspect plus the fear of discovering the 'missing children' he knew if the case was brought back to life we was heading for the chair. While the old building was being refurbished the Animatronics were let loose to roam the building. He snuck in and one by one disabled the animatronics taking the bodies out to dispose of with foxy 'most likely his son' being the last. When the deed was done he prepared to leave Freddy Fazbear pizza for good. As he began to leave the ghosts of the children appeared. Terrified and fearing for his life he noticed spring bonnie. He had grown to relate the gold color with the spring suits and felt that like Fredbear this suit had no parts in it. He quickly fitted into the suit feeling triumphant at his luck. As he laughed at the ghosts the spring locks gave way and he was crushed by the parts becoming Springtrap. This was not enough for the kids however. It was not enough for justice when all this hate burned inside them. They returned to the suits which were repaired for the companies reopening (bad ending.) Fazbear entertainment was then shutdown for good and the memory of the nightmare was lost in time.
Thirty years later Fazbear frights was made as a simple horror attraction. Springtrap was found in the ruins of the pizzeria and brought to the amusement center for usage. The puppet who survived decommissioning for so long finds his way to the pizzeria and in one desperate last attempt to fix everything shows the player (the night guard) their situation. He shows him that while they got revenge they failed to stop the nightmare. The spirits of the Toys give "The cake of closure" to the children to set them free of their torture while the puppet shares it with the 'missing children' wearing masks very familiar masks. They all are set free and with their mission of revenge and granted closure the puppet and children are at last free to leave this hell of a world and rest in peace. (THE END)
The puppet rests knowing that the night guard knows that his mission is not over until every trace of the purple guy and Fazbear entertainment is wiped of the face of the earth. The guard after surviving the night burns fazbear frights to the ground killing the springtrap once and for all insuring that this evil company's nightmare will never be repeated again.
