The State of Symphony · 8:24am Sep 21st, 2015
Whoa, hey guys.
It’s time to come clean about Symphony…
I’m still working on it! I’m getting up to 6k words on the newest chapter and still going strong, so I’m hoping it’ll be a good one. Therefore, now seems like a good time as any to talk about Symphony as a story and what the future holds for it.
Currently, it’s a bit of a messy story. This is largely due to me still being a novice writer when I first wrote it. Thankfully, I’ve improved but that improvement has not translated to those already written earlier chapters, unfortunately.
Additionally, Season 5 has heaped tons of surprises and character developments for a lot of ponies in Symphony. I welcome it immensely but such news doesn’t come without its challenges for me.
Both these factors mean both bad and good news for Symphony… let’s start with the bad:
I’ve had to cut some plotlines: This is attributed to me being a novice writer when I first started to the story. I was too ambitious and made Symphony larger than it had to be, resulting in some difficult writing periods. At its heart, Symphony is a story about self-improvement and striving to be better despite your own shortcomings. Thus, that is what the story should largely be. This does not mean everything in the prior chapters becomes irrelevant, far from it! I’ve just had to cut some things that could’ve blossomed to greater relevance.
This leads me to my next point…
Symphony will get a re-write—when I finish it: I need to have some priorities. Finishing Symphony comes first, rewriting the earlier parts comes after. The reason for this is so they just read better and because Season 5 introduced elements that do not reflect the content of earlier Symphony chapters. Minuette, in particular, is a big sufferer of this problem. (I do love her Season 5 personality though, which is what I will go through with for the rest of Symphony, while still retaining aspects I’ve developed myself.)
Now for the good news…
The rest of Symphony shall be much better than before! I have no doubts about this. I’ve gotten better as a written and shaving off some potential plotlines means the story will have a much sharper focus. As a result, everything about it should go much smoother.
I lied. Kinda. Symphony will receive a healthy new subplot! When I said I had to cut plotlines… I never said I wouldn’t add new ones. Not to worry though, this new subplot ties into the overarching one very closely and will add many fun scenes and ponies for Lyra to talk to! Also much awkwardness for her. But that’s a reason why you read Symphony, right? I’m really excited with this subplot and am hoping it’ll lead to some great scenes and lines!
So, there you have it, Symphony is back on the forefront of my mind.
I have to apologise though. As you can see here, and as evidenced by my noticeably large quiet gap between content, I am not a clean writer. I through words onto walls and hope that they stick. Hopefully in the coming months I’ll work hard on bettering myself as a writer, so I get things out to you fine folks quickly and cleanly.
Until then, I really have to thank you for sticking by me through this drought, if you still have.

P.S.
Your PS saved it. No one who posts such a cute Lyra will do anything but finish eventually.
I STAND READY!
