An update jumped out of the wild grass! · 4:44am Aug 6th, 2015
Yup, another chapter of Sam's life is coming. It's in the hands of my beta, the poor woman. This one looks about 13k, and if you remember the end of the last chapter, it's going to be explosive.
It almost feels weird at this point. I can see the ending pretty clearly, like, there's no big vague nothing standing between me and there, it's like within my sight. I'm excited and a bit scared. By all means, I think the fic will end around 400k words total. And it's been two years. Granted, a lot of that was me being a bit busy with other stuff, but still! Not gonna lie, guys, this fic was my favorite. It was more or less the first time I tried to look what happened to a popular, "unoriginal" premise and playing it as logically as I could. So much stuff. I just knew I wanted it to be a rollercoaster, with a couple multiple stories height drops. Small things at the beginning that are staples or casual details pile up and build up to that one ending where stuff goes really wrong.
And yet... it's not even that close to my original vision. It's longer for one, and Blueblood took way more space than initially envisioned. He like, stole the rest of the Mane Six's screentime. But in a way, I like that better. He's got his character development arc, and he makes a great foil for Canterlot-arc Sam.
It's... wow, I'll be messed up when it ends for real. Anyway, keep an eye out, it'll update as soon as it's proofread.
Wisdom of Flaming Cracker, out!
I guess that's slightly more original than jumping out of the "tall" grass. But I digress.
Looking forward to it.
So does this mean that this story will have 2 or 3 more chapters left or is this next one really going to be the last one?
3299268 Slightly.
3299406 3 chapters, give or take one.
Well you certainly did a great job of revising the concept of BiE to a degree that I dint's think it cloud go very far, I mean that I thought that there were only so many way that you could approach a subject before it get repetitive and boring, but you showed me other wise. The level of depth to to your characters coupled with a clear objective and the drive to do so, with consequences they failed made for a wonderful read. I hope that your other story that you are working on will be of the same caliber as that one.
3299991 Thanks. I'll admit that I sometimes wonder what can be done with that basic premise. I've read so many of them that did the exact same thing. There are people on this site with lists full of the same old clichés that are constantly re-used. Though, to be honest, it seems to me like the number of cliché stories in the HiE have decreased... and some of them are moved into the Displaced genre instead. (Sorry, not a fan of that thing.)
Regardless, I'm really glad you appreciate the read. Always the best compliment you can give to a writer.

So it's really near the end then... I wish you luck in writing it.
