Infinitum Speculo Millennio · 9:15pm Jul 31st, 2015

In the span of two months that I have been on this site, I've been fervently hoarding hundreds of stories of the written word into the many halls of my library. In that time some halls grew big while others remain inadequate for my taste. For Infinitum Speculo, the Crossover/Alternate Universe hall now holds a whooping one thousand and five stories. So I figured I should make a blog detailing the stories I greatly enjoyed. Note I used the word enjoyed because picking a favorite book is like picking your favorite child. Combing through hundreds of stories to pick the top ten or whatever is simply nigh impossible. So instead I'll share ten stories in no proper order that I've greatly enjoyed instead.

Multiverse is a fun subject that I believed this story delivered well. Seeing Sweetie Belle venture across several universe base on stories I've read is very entertaining to me. I like seeing her react to different environments and how she copes with it. It also has enough content for me to come back and reread it again and again.

No proper words can describe the emotional impact that this brings to oneself. The musical communication is a creative piece to the story and the imagery that the author paints is beautiful. With the right background music I could practically hear the words sing to me, reeling me into the world of silence and music. This is a story that makes me want to come back to it and reread it a hundred of times.

I am a fan of the Elder Scrolls series and it's lore, especially the lore. My favorite character build was a Scholar and I manage to build a small library wit all the books it has in the game including mods that bring books from other games in the series. For Elder Knowledge not only is it deeply philosophical it also did an amazing job on writing Paarthurnax. I could practically hear his rumbling voice in my head. Regarding the morale of the story it is very well done and poetic.

If you are not familiar with the game Diplomacy it is similar to risk but with more diplomacy involved. I like this because I am a fan of strategy games and I love the play-styles that the author gave to the main six. Watching them break over a simple game is fun to read. However I can't say that I want to reread multiple times and the ending was indeed a twist but also a bit abrupt.

Another story about a strategy game that I've enjoyed. Reading Rainbow playing as the Huns was entertaining to read and like the previous story I mention the story has a bit of diplomacy to it that I find fun to read. What was more fun to read was the Pinkie Pie segments. All in all it is a fun read and I loved the historical aspects to it.

When you know a story is inspired from Crusader Kings II and Romance of the Three Kingdom, then you know that no one is leaving the story unscathed. This story is the perfect reason why I love political drama. Seeing ponies break under the stress of politics is interesting to read.

Let me make this clear, Celestia is the god-emperor. Enough said. Not only is this a retelling of Equestria history but it also have WH40k theme thrown in. While I am not a fan of that franchise the thought of Celestia being the God-Emperor makes me happy inside.

Similar to the God Empress in this story Celestia becomes a Empress and leads her nation to space status thanks to a few factors. I love imperialistic Equestria so this was very enjoyable to read through. Princess Luna is also a badass in this story and it was fun reading her first space battle against the Covenant.

I am a fan of the Fallout Equestria universe. The main was a perfect blend[Although the tech advancement was a bit extreme] and I enjoyed the many side stories. My favorite is New Roam Innovatus because it is based on the Roman Empire, one of my most famous empires in history. The amount of work that the author put into this is very nice to see.

Ah Baldur's Gate, how you bring back memories. The story has amazing world building and the character development is very nice. I love Twilight character in this and her fight scenes. The series is something I would love to read and read again.

I'm generally pretty iffy about crossovers, since two shows/games/books rarely have the same tone, but I remember liking an XCom/FiM one (Stardust) more than expected. It was also the morbid curiosity of a Halo/FiM that lured me onto this site in the first place, so, yeah.

An Equestrian Journey definitely has my interest. Going it add it to my Read Laters.

That is a good point, another problem with crossovers is that they tend to be unbalance. Such as making the ponies super weak or strong and the same applies for the other side.

Yeah, true. It's often really clear which side of the crossover the author likes best.

I will say that, on second thought, most crossovers are mainly built around getting the characters the author likes from one show and placing them into another show's universe. It's almost never a merging of the two show's worlds and tones.

In that light, it seems more benign, since it's essentially like writing a fanfic for one show while introducing new characters that are VERY VERY similar to another show's protagonists.

Then again, most crossovers spent a ton of time coming up with the rationale as to how these characters cross over, so, that's something unique to crossovers.
