    Something in the works? Maybe?

A thestral, a siren, a zebra, a dragon, a changeling, a kirin, three unicorns, three pegasi, three earth ponies, and three alicorns all walk into a bar.

They then get kicked out because that's way too many characters with "primary/secondary protagonist" billing for one story.

    [Snippet] The Ponyville Numbers Station

Sunset Shimmer set about unpacking her things. Though still reluctant toward the idea of staying in Ponyville long-term, she was at least going to make sure she was comfortable here during her visit. After a solid couple hours of work, the previously-bland master bedroom had been transformed into something far more cozy. The bed was made, her spellbooks and theory texts placed snugly on a

[SPOILER CONTENT] And Then Canon Happened · 10:44pm Jul 1st, 2015

For better or for worse.

Twigate is canon now, everyone go home!
Nah, just kidding. Still, this episode has me thoroughly nervoucited.

BUT ON TO THE IMPORTANT THING

Sugarcoat - WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT HAIR. It just... that's not right. That has got to be the ugliest hairdo I have ever seen in my life, and I've honestly seen some pretty weird ones. I mean, it would probably work if they lost the topknot and put her bangs forward, bit this is still just further proof in my mind that only Aria Blaze can make Twintails look good.
Indigo Zap - Meh, less unique hairstyle than I was expecting; she looks like a Lightning Dust recolor.
Sunny Flare - Ooh, looks even better than I thought she would! I really like those sorts of angled bob-cuts.
Lemon Zest - Did not expect the headphones, but it works. She looks like she has a nasty sunburn, but the color setup in her hair is even better than the toy box art.
Science Twilight - Much more of a shrinking violet than I expected; I suppose I should have known better than to hope for a character who is both benignly antagonistic AND snarky. Only full villains can be snarky under Meghan's rule.
Sour Sweet - Like Sunny Flare, actually looks better than the box art. But dat evil smirk though.

So, just in terms of appearance alone, half of my guesses from A Few Days Prior have been debunked. Well, at least the snobbiness is accurate...
While I think most of them come out positively after DHX's makeovers, Sugarcoat is just... eugh. And then there's Sour Sweet, who seems rather different from the bipolar personality I imagined; she may become another Adagio. (Minus the rampant sex jokes.) I have a bad feeling that she and Twilight are the only ones who will see significant screentime outside of the sporting events, and the other four will join Aria in the box of underwritten and under-appreciated characters; I really hope that doesn't happen.

Probably shouldn't be all that surprising for a character that is basicly pre-friendship Twi. I don't think "snarky" would ever be in-character considering how similar every other character in EQG has alwas been to pony counteparts. Also looks like she probably not really going to be so much an antagnist herself, but more so just having fallen in with a bad crowd.

Looks more like foreground girl (Sour Sweet?) is going to be the new lead villain.

That part I can see, though.

Sour Sweet is correct, and indeed, it would seem so. I kinda hope they don't go the "Wolfbat" route with them; it would be a unique twist on the situation for their winning streak to come from legitimate talent rather than cheating.

There was a toy fair a few months ago where they showed everything off; that's where we learned the names.

Huh, I missed that. o.O Okay then!

(I am concerned because I sense no waifu material here.)

Cough Cough Season 1 Twilight Cough Sarcasm Cough Cough

While somewhat similar, "sarcasm" isn't really the same as "snark" though. The latter more so requires the speaker to be intentionally rude and insulting.

...

Anyway, that second picture is cool, although more so for the characters showing up in the background. Assuming that's all official artwork, I the student body for this rival school includes Jetset, Uppercrust, Trenderhoof, and Suri Polomare. However, I find myself wishing Suri was actually on the competition team to be Rarity's "shadow", especially since it really does look like Indigo Zap started development as Lightning Dust.

Well, now you know. And knowing is half the battle.
The other half is violence.

Huh?

Right, derp. But I don't really sense much of either, anyway.

Assuming that's all official artwork,

It is; it's a screencap from the trailer.

I the student body for this rival school includes Jetset, Uppercrust, Trenderhoof, and Suri Polomare.

Along with Neon Lights and Pokey Pierce.

Heh, fair enough. I guess I'm more interested in seeing what they'll do with these new characters, though, even if I'm slightly disappointed they seem to be going with the standard "other side are jerks" formula; we'll have to see. Either way, lots of fanfic material.

especially since it really does look like Indigo Zap started development as Lightning Dust.

There has certainly been a lot of confusion on that particular point, so I share your suspicion.

Along with Neon Lights and Pokey Pierce.

Well yes, but they're background ponies with no previously established personalities. Though I do wonder if attending the "snob" school will bleed backwards into their fanon personas moving forward from here.

I guess I'm more interested in seeing what they'll do with these new characters,

So am I, but since they are all brand new never before seen I really can't get hyped over characters we literally know almost nothing about. I mean, my attitude was pretty much the same for Sunset Shimmer back when the only thing that existed was masked "wrestler" toy, or for the sirens when we had screen caps but none of the history behind who they were. In the latter case I can even remember being disappointed that the rumors of Trixie being the lead antagonist for Rainbow Rock turned out false. Just the same, however, I'm sure these knew girls will all be more interesting characters in time though.

even if I'm slightly disappointed they seem to be going with the standard "other side are jerks" formula;

It's still a show (movie) for kids, so it general best to go with the simplest and most straightforward archetypes so as to more immediately establish the plot from the outset. I mean with only this one move to introduce FIVE new characters in (not to mention human Twi) there really wouldn't be much time to delve to deeply into anything more complex.

None of the characters (besides Twilight, I guess) stand out to me as "I like that one!"

Then again, I had no thoughts on Sonata until I saw her in action, so maybe that'll change. :B I'll probably like the stupid one.

3199589 I guess with the Twilight thing, I was expecting more "Very antisocial and somewhat poorly adjusted, but really does mean well, but also doesn't know what she's messing around with" rather than "makes Fluttershy and Moe-Homura look absolutely outging." I'm disappointed, but I can live with this.

Oh, also, on the Lightning Dust issue, though, I think I can see where they were coming from on making a new character to take her place - I don't really see her as the type to attend a preppy school.

3199689

Well yeah, just figured I'd mention them for posterity. :derpytongue2: But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how this affects people's perceptions of them.

So am I, but since they are all brand new never before seen I really can't get hyped over characters we literally know almost nothing about.

I guess I'm hyped for the learning about them so I can by hyped for them. :rainbowwild:

People thought that? :facehoof: I guess it comes down to YMMV, but I would have been disappointed if she had been the main villain, if I'd been paying much attention to the RR promotional stuff at the time. And at the time, I didn't even know the Dazzlings existed; I like what fanworks do with Trixie, but her in general I'm just not a big fan of.

Eh, fair enough. And it's entirely possible that their attitudes are at least partially due to the general competition-ness - I have little doubt RD would act just as smug as Sour Sweet in her position. I guess we'll see.

3199935 That makes sense; at the moment I can't give any objective opinions on them either, aside from their visual design - But I am looking forward to seeing them in action, whereupon I can make such judgements. XD

rather than "makes Fluttershy and Moe-Homura look absolutely outging

I think it's to soon to make that assumption based on what little we've seen. Besides, consider that even pony Twilight has shy side, notably never having any friends growing up other than her own brother. The confidence she has when we first meet her as adult could conceivably be something Celestia taught her, but human Twilight would never have had that mentorship.

I don't really see her as the type to attend a preppy school.

I don't think there really is a "type" for that. Consider that it's the parents choice to send them to such a school, not really the students.

I guess I'm hyped for the learning about them so I can by hyped for them. :rainbowwild:

I can understand that. Personally speaking I'd just rather not get invested in characters before they are fleshed out. That way I don't have to worry about getting disappointed should they fail to live up to any false expectations.

And at the time, I didn't even know the Dazzlings existed.

That's sort of WHY people thought it was goinf to be Trixie, since her and Rainbow Dash having a shred-off was as I recall the first piece of promotional material released for the movie. The idea in a lot of fans minds (myself included) was that the plot really was going to be about the band competition, without any soul sucking magical monsters. For that kind of mundane slice-of life style plot Trixie would have worked just fine as an ego driven antagonist out to boost her own popularity.

I have little doubt RD would act just as smug as Sour Sweet in her position.

Yes, this too.

Ah, that makes sense!

I actually feel oddly satisfied with Sugarcoat's design, it's like a cute ugly for me.
