I miss the days--to all my fans and supporters, you were great. I leave a ghost, honest but neglected promises, and just the tip of the worlds I wished to share...

Something Positive, Yes? A...Fairytale of sorts. The Tale of Jackal and Phoenix

So, one thing I have been doing is a lot of homebrewing and world building for my Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting, Alandria. Have a good game, a little over a year old now, going, and it really sparks my creativity. I long to reach a point where I can write stories and the like in my world, like certain others have done in the past. (Haaah, dreams.)

My Name is Jared DeZarn. I'm a Worthless Failure.

So heads up. I have had a bit more to drink than I meant to. I'm still, more or less, aware of myself. I won't be blacking out or anything. If anything, I'm kind of in a super aware state?

My God, He's Releasing Something New

Jaysus, I've been quiet here. In all ways, not just the writing side of life. Which sucks. I suck, yes.

Call to Help Finish the Games

So, the Games, as originally intended, are pretty much done. But that's not my fault--so I'll see them done, even if the overall exercise has been largely lost.

Three Years, AMA If It Pleases You · 9:43pm Jun 30th, 2015

Oh wow, I totally let my three year anniversary of being on FiMFic pass by without a trace. How lame.

Although, I guess, I don't have a whole lot to celebrate, really. This year has been even more unproductive (publicly) than the last year! And yeah, I'm still proud of what has gotten done, and what has gotten done even if it's not up here. But still. I've been saying I need to do better for a long time. Sooner or later I'll get around to actually doing better.

Beyond that, I guess... If anybody has any questions or comments they'd like to make, open season. Care to ask me about all the various stories I've been working on but haven't completed enough to publish? Sure. Care to ask me about my original fiction stuff, which has gotten some pretty good work on it this past year? Also sure. Ask me about myself, personally, if you like, or any serious topics going on right now. Or anything. I will literally answer almost any question. Or if there's something you'd like to see more from me, or stuff I've promised that you'd prefer I focus on... Well, so little of that is public knowledge, and I don't really have fans, per se... Still. Ears are open. I am curious.

Thank you all, friends, fellows, and followers. Despite my disappointment with myself in many ways, this place has taught me a lot and allowed me to grow. Quite a bit. And, of course, I have made so many tried and true friends here. That's why I'm still here and why I will no doubt be here for a few more years to come, at the least.

As for me, right now, I'm off to finish my Round 3 Slamjam piece. Provided the weather doesn't kill my net... It's a little touch and go. I'm actually scared it might go out and not come back on and the deadline will pass.... Ugh. Must finish, quickly.

To you all, take care, write well, stay safe.

Happy anniversary! I was actually curious what kind of content we will see posted by you this year? Any projects you are especially excited for? Just stuff like that.

When u gonna get better net, nerd? Gosh.

Happy anniversary! Hope you stick around for more anniversaries. :moustache:

Were you, Merc and Jake acquainted pre-Fimfiction or did you meet through this particular common interest?

Whenever I manage to get to an actual city I guess, heh.

From here. Merc was one of the first guys I stumbled upon on FiMFic. Back when I first joined, I got into the Struggling Authors group for a short time. Met him through there, ended up reading his first story and liking it. So we were semi-friendly, but didn't really do anything together at the time.

Then I found my first big home here on FiMFic, Author Support. This was the group where I got into it, broke my usual and started being vocal and getting myself out there. Ended up making a lot of friends (and earning a Mod position too), which then started hanging out in a GDoc where we all talked and worked together. This is where I met JJ Gingerhooves, as he was known at the time. I liked the place and tried to invite others I wanted to get to know better, which included Merc. And you know the rest of the story!

Almost anything really. The sheer number of stories I have either planned or even partially started is stupid. Honestly, it's such a problem that it's hard to know what to focus on first. I just jump around way too much.

For more specifics? Well, one thing I know I want to get done and out this year is my ponified Christmas Carol. I've wanted to do one since my very first year here, but last year was the first time I got any serious work done on it. I had hoped to finish it, but I'm attempting to mimic Dickens' style pretty much on the nose, which slows down progress immensely--though it's well worth it, because I'm doing pretty well, I feel. So I'll be starting that much earlier to try and finish it for a proper December/Christmas release. At the same time, I have a story that should be somewhat Horror-ish (of the eldritch abomination type!) that I might try and get done for Halloween. But we'll see. That one is still in the planning stages.

I'd really love to get a multi-chapter fic started. I have several, but I think I'd like to get the beginnings of my VinylTavia, Medley, out there. I'm super excited about that story. Alternatively, in the same vein, my TwiTavia. Which is probably the project of mine I have the largest hopes for and the most pride in its outline (which is ~4000 words on its own, which shows you how stupid I am).

With Merc and JJ, the third round of our Heistverse fics. And maybe a project or two with Merc alone. Other collabs include an awesome one with an author named Tricondon. It's a mild mystery fic, with more action and adventure than mystery. It's turned out very well, and I'm actually tempted to break up the thing into chapters so we can release some of it. But we'll see. I'm not entirely sure how well this one will go over--it stars our characters from the Manehattan Chronicles RP (another thing I'd love to get done; over 150K words of that sitting around, needing a good cleaning and organizing and it's super amazing stuff) and while it's written to be standalone, it might not have the appeal as a result. There's another in the same universe with KartaltheWriter, which I've put off for far too long. A similar sort of take, but with a different starring character and it's also gone fairly well so far.

I suppose I will shoot for these handful to focus on. That's been my biggest issue: I spread myself too thin with collab work and helping others, not to mention just starting new projects of my own (I get new ideas all the damn time, they literally never stop). But if I can focus, finish stories and then move on, I think my name might get a little more recognition here on this site. I'm confident in my abilities as a writer, although I have learned and grown a lot in my three years here and don't expect that to stop soon.

But still, I don't think I'm wrong when I say I'm a good writer. So I just want my stories out there to prove it, heh.

Thanks for the questions, it's always nice to see people being interested.

3222083 Fantastic! I'm really looking forward to Heistverse and TwiTavia, thanks for answering! :yay:

How would you rate the canon show so far? Any particular favourites?

3222151
Uh, well, I'm still a fan. I heavily enjoyed S4 on the whole (I've got a reaction blog where I simply typed up my first thoughts as I went along; so it's somewhat stream of consciousness, but pretty much tells all.) and even with S3--which was clearly rushed (thank you, EqG) and thus wasted a lot of the potential within it--I still highly enjoyed the potential that was within it. I dunno. It's like, I know Hasbro is going to enforce limitations and some decisions, and I'm not always happy with everything that happens, but I still like the show. And certainly nothing gets retroactively 'destroyed' for me. I don't get a lot of the hate so many other fans have developed. The show still feels the same, the characters are still pretty much the same.

I've not watched any S5 yet. I don't really do watching an episode a week, I'm too impatient for that heh. If I could watch it live with my friends, that might go better, but I work Saturday mornings. So yeah. But we're reaching halfway through the season, so I will likely marathon my way to catch up, then wait for the season to end, then marathon all that. It's what I did with S4. So though I hear almost nothing but good things about S5 so far, and look forward to it immensely, no idea where I stand, heh.

As for past seasons, and particular favorites... It's hard, 'cause it's been so long since I've seen 'em. I keep wanting to do a rewatch, A, to take notes of all the canon details we've been given so I can have a database of it, and, B, to watch them with a more critical eye and see where I really stand. For instance, an episode that gets a lot of hate, the Mysterious Mare Do Well. I remember highly enjoying it at the time--it was especially nice to see Dash get some of her comeuppance. So would that still hold now? I'd like to see.

Anyways, a few that I do recall heavily enjoying. Well, anything Discord has always appealed. I'm right there with most fans (although I didn't mind his reformation, unlike a great many). Owl's Well that Ends Well is a fave, largely because of my own story. Bridle Gossip and Lesson Zero I remember getting the hardest laughs. From S3, Apple Family Reunion, like so many. Power Ponies, Pinkie Pride, It Ain't Easy Being Breezies, Maud Pie... And there's probably plenty more. I definitely am way past a rewatch, heh. Honestly, there are few episodes I truly 'dislike'.
