Now What? · 4:20pm Apr 25th, 2015
Hi all, thank you everyone for the huge amount of support I've received on finishing the HiEC. I've had more new subscribers in the last week than ever before, in fact the number went up by about a third in just two days which is fantastic. Welcome, welcome everyone and I hope you enjoy the rest of my work, past and future.
So, the big question is what's happening now after the HiEC is finished. Well, as I said I’m not leaping straight into the sequel, I actually set things up for the story to end if I wasn’t enjoying writing it enough (or I was getting slammed for too much Sueing :P). As I’m sure you’re all very glad to hear that didn’t happen, but I am still at a bit of loose end. I’ve got ideas, but they’re not fully formed and I’m loathe to start any story when I’m not sure of the ending. I’ll keep working on a sequel, but it’s a few projects back at least right now.
That said, I’m not abandoning the setting. I’ve got at least one sidequel slated, in which Scootaloo gets a new sister, and I’m keen the get a story set somewhere other than Ponyville, so something like a travelog might be in the works. Other short story ideas are going to be my next focus though, I’ve built up a substantial backlog of ideas that I haven’t had the time for while working on the HiEC and I am going to exercise them. I make no promises as to what will actually be written, but to tease a few things that might be coming up: a Hard Reset inspired comedy, the CMC’s (accidental) trip to space and a hunt for the human in Equestria. None of these are going to be longer than a short novella but I’m looking forward to stretching my legs with some other characters and settings.
As for my next big project, well I do have an independant novel calling my name, unfortunately it turns out that getting a book about ponies published is a little difficult. But, I do have a Trixie novel waiting in the wings when I clear my backlog of short stories, so we’ll have to see which grabs my interest.
Now, before I go I’d like to take a moment to say that I’m still looking for pre-readers. My current trio has done a fantastic job, but more eyes is always better when it comes to a story. I’m looking for all kinds of editing, from just opinions to picking out commas. So if you’re interested in helping me out, or just getting to read early, drop me a message. The next story on my list is: Humans Don’t Have Wings.
A separate collection of short-stories, perhaps? Like Shinzakura does with her All American Girl series?
It's a good way to expand a setting and character backgrounds without bogging down the main story, but still keep everything half-decently collected. I've been intending to do that myself with Sufficiently Advanced, but the main story have just taken so much time and effort the side stuff's been... well, sidelined.
Still, a travelogue sounds like it would be really interesting. Do it with a non-pony, perhaps? That way you could show off some other types of magic, different sides of Equestrian culture and stuff like that.
Heh, you got a recommendation.
And it wasn't even me this time!
All I can say is that Alex is going to need lots of therapy in the sequel. But I'm looking forward to its possible eventuality.
As a poking from LoD here to read the Hiec, it was a fun, nice and enjoyable ride. Glad to see the works created aren't sorta hitting limbo. May the muse be ever abound.

I generally prefer to see stories stand on their own two feet, at least, if they don't need to be attached to the main continuity to make sense, though I guess those appendix chapters fall into this category.
I'm actually considering Mary-Ann taking the staring role, though that may be my sadistic streak showing.
Also, yay, more recomendations! Now to conquer EQ Daily.
3015985 Don't worry, she has Zecora's aid. Though whether those chapters will be made, depends on the time to write in rhyme.
3016602 Thanks, glad you had fun with it.

Don't torment me with that unless you're actually going to do it? I wanted to see more Mary-Ann so bad.

Fair enough, I can understand that. I personally like that 'layout' but it isn't for every story/author.
Going to agree with 3017542 on that. I mean, being a sub-optimal hybrid —looking almost like the ruling class I might add, in a world made from magic? Now that's an character I'd like to read more about.
Do make sure to hammer out the rest of those 'clockwise and anti-clockwise' connections between the types of magic first, though. Marry-Ann sounds like the perfect character to explore quite a bit of that kind of stuff, and it would be a shame missing such an opportunity.
