A user in a previous blog made this suggestion of placing an idea that was developed at random. It's a BaenVerse fic, but here it is.

"Through circumstance, Starlight Glimmer steals Baen's mark and assimilates it into herself and in doing so, wields Old Magic. Baen has been equalized, weak, and is broken and has no will to fight. Starlight crowns herself empress, DEALS with the other princesses, Twilight and the girls fates are unknown, and Starlight equalizes ANYPONY who acquires a mark. But a hero rises up with a resistance behind him or her, and fights back."
