Hey everyone!
I have a bit of a conundrum - In the arc where everypony went to the Crystal Empire to help convince Ms. Harshwhinny to choose it for the Equestria Games, I added a part where Midnight wanted to participate in the games.
Well, now he's an alicorn prince - Would it be inappropriate and/or unfair for him to still compete, representing Team Ponyville in the Ice Archery competition? Twilight didn't partake in the games other than as a spectator as she sat with the rest of the princesses
What do you all think?
I feel that he should not compete for two reasons.
1. As a prince there would be a lot heat from those who feel that he might get unfair treatment from judges and referees ie they would give him more credit than his due because he is a prince. He could use a disguise to hide his identity and that would prevent this reason but....
2. He is an alicorn and as such would have an unfair advantage due to the inherant abilities that come with it. It would be like allowing captain America or Thor into the Olympics with regular people. I just don't think Midnight would feel that it was fair and just competition due to his Alicorn abilities. Though if you wish to establish that Alicorns are only stronger in magic and not strength, or speed and flight than a regular pony I guess it could be done. But how would he maintain an illusion spell when a magic inhibitor spell is mandated for all ponies to keep it fair. Unfortunately that would just produce the first problem again.

Maybe he shouldn't participate as an athlete, but as a coach? Maybe?
2920603 Hmm... What if (bear with me here)... what if... Midnight learned to transform into any of the three pony types, and gain those exclusive strengths and inherent limitations?
Alicorns are a blend of the three pony types and thus have all the strengths but if Midnight transformed back into his unicorn state (and tossed in a fake identity and disguise for good measure) it could make things more fair.

true, but how would a disguise spell work when all unicorns have to have magic dampening spell on them. Also, it seems like it would be really hard to unascend even temporarily as he would have to somehow alter the flow of magic within himself to the point of transforming and also someway to reverse it later. Course if Midnight could master such magic then it would stand to reason that he could make anypony he wanted into an Alicorn, which would be interesting to explore later as the story progresses. After all, I still wonder who really has the short end of the stick the person who dies of old age or the person who has to watch everyone they care about die and then be stuck around to forever in heartache.
2920651 I like to think of Celestia and Luna being different from Twilight and Cadance until proven otherwise that the Royal Sisters were born alicorns and thus have the power of immortality whereas Twilight and Cadance are ascended alicorns and thus will not live forever. Maybe a little longer than normal but are not immortal

Oh I see, I have read some people postulate that Luna and Celestia are Divine Alicorns. Whereas, Cadence and Twilight are regular alicorns. What with the wavy manes in a non-existant wind. However, the official comics kinda contradicts this When Luna tells Celestia that Twilight will probably stop looking at her as a mentor in a couple of Millenniums. Also, the battle with Tirek Kinda puts Twilight on the power level of Celestia as she is able to handle all of the magic of 4 alicorns at once.
He could use his pega goggles to turn into a Pegasus, as the goggles removed his horn during transformations, so they could possibly do so again, despite him now possessing wings
To be honest, I would like all the new elements of harmony to participate in the Equestrian games. I just don't know how it is going to work out, with Soarin now in Ponyville and not with the wonderbolts from Cloudsdale. IT can be quite easy as to how any of the new six gets into the games, ( they signed up before the ceremony.) From their, the episode where Dash gets her key gets complicated. We would have Dash trying to learn about what true loyalty means, Soarin deciding if he wants to race with Cloudsdale or his new town of Ponyville, and people claiming it isn't proper for royalty to be competing in the games. Another way this situation gets more complicated is that, Crystal ponies will be adoring Midnight instead of Spike; and of course fearing Sombra. (what would be funny is in the actual games if Sombra and Midnight face off in archery.)

Yeah he can't compete it would be unfair but like that other guy said he can be a coach like shinig armor!

While they may not be able to compete officially, they may be able to compete in an exhibition match. We can have Shinning, Sombra, and Midnight compete in archery, sprinting, flying etc... Have it be a special and a little bit of side betting between Celestia, Cadence, and Twilight, while Luna is the book keeper on who is going to win what event.

What if it's a three-way competition between the princes, Shining Armor, Sombra, and Midnight? Unofficially representing the Crystal Empire, Canterlot, and Ponyville in that order?
Also, I'm thinking of going with someone's suggestion of making Midnight the coach of Team Ponyville
2925843 I'm glad you understand what I was suggesting. It would be good for Midnight to be the coach for ponyville. He can have some time with Twinken, and his friends as they prep for the games.
