    Sincere Shilling!

If you like D&D stuff, or just tabletop rpg stuff in general, one of the people I follow online is trying to get funding to create something to sell for Dungeon Masters to increase immersion.

    Happy Holidays

This is your yearly reminder that I wrote a decently funny Christmas story in the long-ago times. If you haven't read it, you should! If you have read it, maybe you should just stick with blurred memories of how good it was.

    Books!

So, due to my high level connections here and there, I now have an advance copy of several highly sought after ponyfic books. Now that I've had a chance to check several of them out in person, I have to say that Ponyfeather Publishing does excellent work. Anyone able to pick one up, at Bronycon or ordering them afterward, should totally do so.

Last Week on City Of Doors 7/7/2019

So, I've actually been posting on my primary blog lately. Which has been nice, given that I've pulled myself out of depression enough to actually do stuff like that. So, here's been my daily content over there:

Here are five old reviews:
A Dream of Dawn by Starsong
At The Drop of A Hat by Tchernobog
What We Leave Behind by Golden Vision
Luna's Pet Project by Fizzy Orange
Luna's Night Off by GrassAndClouds2

A Dream of Dawn by Starsong

I really liked the ending of this story. The whole last quarter of the story was very nicely done. The middle of the story was a little dull, a bit stretched out I think, but the ending made up for it. This also had the best non-evil Discord I’ve run across. Chaotic, but not really destructive. Crazy, but not psychotic. The parts we see from his point of view were a good look at his personality. Not exactly a character study given the plot and adventures and such distractions, but certainly a decent exploration of him nonetheless. I’d recommend this one, with the warning that you might find it dragging in the middle. I thought the ending made up for it, but you may not. Fluttershy leading an army of forest animals (including timberwolves) to attack a Changeling hive was cool.

First half of the review.

At The Drop of A Hat by Tchernobog

Fun story. This was another collaboration story where each chapter is written by a different author. This one turned out a lot more coherent than the other collaborative story I’ve read. Plus I really enjoyed the sweet romance between Rainbow Dash and Applejack that fills in around the edges of the action-packed hat chase. Plus evil cultists! Which are always fun.

What We Leave Behind by Golden Vision
[story link] [my original review]

I should read more Shining Armor stories. This one was pretty good and got me thinking I need to devour more character studies focused on him. This one about him leaving to become a guard wasn’t amazing, but it had a sincere core that was quite nice.

Luna's Pet Project by Fizzy Orange
[story link] [my original review]

Fun Lunaverse story. Pretty much stand-alone, all you need to know is that Princess Luna is in charge of Equestria and can split herself into multiple copies. It’s pretty much just a little slice of life of Luna having a bit of fun in disguise. It actually is a story that happens before another one I read that involved this same Luna-disguise character. No big continuity really. Just in that one she’s already got a job as a court page, and this is the story she gets the job. I like little continuity touches like that in stories even if they aren’t directly connected.

Luna's Night Off by GrassAndClouds2
[story link] [my original review]

This one has a really good start. More trivial noble squabbles in Luna’s Night Court. Just another slice of life about Luna in disguise having fun in her job and with friends. Fun picturing the final scene which is a hoofball game they get Octavia to play with them.

As always, The Big Master Review List is here: { THE MASTER LIST }
If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.

If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback. It might take a while, as more precision means I need to actually think about things instead of just doing stream of consciousness typing.
