    It's been too long...

Hey there everyone, I know this is probably a surprise after my long, and sudden, hiatus.

So yeah... I'm still here, and I want to apologize for not updating the story in such a long time. I think I said it would only take a week to get out, right? And yet here we are nine months later and I got nothing to show for it.

    A Long Awaited Apology

    Hello my loyal readers!

I wanted to make this small blog to apologize for my tardiness regarding the next chapter of TAOAT. To put it bluntly I've been slowly digging a hole in my life and only recently did I finally get help and manage to drag myself back out. And even then, only about half way.

    A Formal Apology

To those of you who read the previous blog I posted in regards to the most recent chapter, I want to formally apologize for what I wrote. I was angry and frustrated with the way my story, and by extension myself, have been treated. I worded it in a way that put my readers in a negative light, and for that I regret what I have done.

Technology Level of Equestria? · 6:53pm Feb 17th, 2015

What do you guys think the technology is in Equestria. To me, it seems to be a mix of early and late 20th century technology. My guess for this is simply because of magic and it's role in science.

What do you guys think? Can you think of any appliances from the show such as stoves and refrigerators?

arcade machins

2805356 wait really? did they actually have that in the show?

giz

2805359 if and various power tools, I think their technological level is around the 20th century and the most advanced technologies are Magitek

2805368 It doesn't even make sense. Then again, I'm trying to logically determine the appropriate tech level of magical pony land.

2805378 also have hydroelectric dams.
well, they are a magical race, technical development should be fairly inconsistent
when compared to human development

I would say late 19th century and early-mid 20th century.

Technology for the pony race is very inconsistent, at least comparing it to how the human race has developed. Many things used around the world have no need for electricity. In the episode where they show off the Cider Squeezy 6000, it looked to be powered by steam, a relatively early source of power for us. The design was old fashioned and looked to be from around the 1800s comparatively. The thing is that we see Flim and Flam giving it a charge up with magic in order to fully power the machine, which means it's powered by magic and not steam. It's possible it could be powered by both magic and steam, and the magic was used to give it a kickstart, but I wouldn't know for sure.

This was seen as a relatively new invention by the populace of Ponyville, by just going by how they all reacted to it, although that might not be such a strong argument. The effectiveness of such a display can be debatable as to how well informed a rustic town is with new information, being a mostly traditional town.

Even a simple town like this has a fully staffed medical hospital. Rainbow Dash got a cast and an xray, from the Read it and Weep episode, which could mean that their medical technology could be around the 1930s, depending on the quality of the cast. The building itself looks relatively new compared to the thatched roofs from the centuries old town. The city of Manehattan still uses horse drawn carriages to get around, and we have a steam powered train running through Ponyville. Yet at the same time, from Daring Don't, even Daring Do still uses a typewriter to write her books, which is late 1800s to early 1900s for us here in America.

With all this technology from different eras, it gets a bit complicated and very difficult to draw an effective conclusion. I'd have to say, with all this stuff in thought, it would be around the early 1900s, with a few technological outliers. Relatively modern medicine, hydroelectric power(early to mid 1900s), and I think Pinkie had an inflatable raft in Baby Cakes(which wasn't made usable until around the early 1930s and was used in WW2). These are a few inventions being outliers, at least from what I've seen. In fact, Pinkie was using an old record player at the start of A Friend in Deed, something that wasn't commercialized until late 1890s to early 1900s.

The main point is, anything humans have done in history, ponies can find a way around it with magic. They don't need to follow the Laws of Physics in such a way that there isn't a better alternative through the power of the mystic. With the ability to do work arounds, and not have a need to change what ain't broke, there are many things that they've been able to do with magic, and few things without.

I'm pretty sure there was an electric-esque stove at one point. Then again I could be remembering it wrong.

… It's an Anachronism Stew, you eventually learn to just tune it all out after a while.

One name : Leonardo Da Vincie :pinkiegasp:, some (inconsistent) things that ponies have show to have ,can be explain through that name .just imagine a world that put more attention to someone like him :applejackconfused:
For example there are (brief) mentions of Tanks and Bullets in the show ( this guy cover in more detail that part ) ; also there had been 3 instances of helicopter ( the Pinkie Copter ,Tank copter and a one in RD episode in S4) that were subject of study of him (beside of a funtional parachute and other flying machines) ; also he had a great knowledge of anatomy that could advance medicine if wasn't for the ignorance of that time:twilightangry2:.:raritydespair:
Trying to put in here all that he do (but couldn't do because for the limitation of those times) would be to much for a comment :applejackconfused:
There also the fact that Equestria is not all the world, all that innovation could came from foreing lands (beside of the obvious) , who knows ,there could be a Japan like country were Kitsunes, Nekomata and Kirins live.:rainbowkiss:

My opinion? It is whatever you want it to be, as long as it is believable.

2805625 that's pretty insightful. You also gave me a good idea for creating homemade appliances using robins magic. Next chapter is about Trixie and her shopping spree so this is kinda what this blog is for. When I thought about stuff like kitchen ware my mind just went blank.

2806673 Glad I could be of service. Good luck on the next chapter.

It's all over the place, but as far as I can tell entertainment appears to be where most of the development has gone to. Some authors give the idea that other species, like the Griffins and Minotaurs, are more technologically advanced because they've had to get by without magic.

Mass transportation doesn't seem to be above the steam engine, and weaponry is clearly stuck in medieval or perhaps even greek era level (with Pinkie Pie being the exception with her cannon, putting her in perhaps the renaissance era). Manhattan, however, proves that buildings and construction are at least industrial age level, and places like Canterlot are probably kept old fashioned intentionally.

2807046 It's times like these that make me hate myself for writing observant characters. When given the chance, Robin would look at the tech level and have an aneurysm from trying to figure it out. He's also not one to simply say "fuck it, it's magic!"

I think I have some ideas and some creative new ways to use his magic. I'll have to see how it works out.

The way I see it is that the overall tech level is a medieval or renaissance era, until they need something specific. For example, all of ponyville (save a couple buildings) are all thatch roof cottages. Don't really see those anymore, but when something is needed, like RD breaking her wings. Then suddenly they have modern day hospitals and medical devices made from wood. So it really just depends on what is needed for the episode or place.

2815083 This is probably extremely late, but the way I personally see technology is that ponies develop it as it becomes necessary. Ponies are becoming sick or injured? Not enough unicorn doctors? Then they invent new medical technologies that even an earth pony could use. Ponies need more places to live, but room is becoming a problem? Invent taller buildings, like skyscrapers. Need to manufacture more items quickly? Invent factories. Then where magic can simply handle it, they are rather behind. To them, technology is necessity, not luxury.

2856894 That seems to be the case. Still, I would think even their factories are powered by magic. I can't really think of a single electronic device in MLP. Even if it appears to be powered from chemicals, it's most likely still magic in nature.

2856917 Yeah, I'd probably say that it's powered like their trains are, or via magically enchanted items, perhaps gems holding magic within them?

2856968 Most likely. It was never really shown in the show, but I believe a lot of devices use powered gems as a sort of battery. Wasn't there a flashlight in the show at one point?

2857000 Yes, yes there was. It wasn't a flashlight so much as a signal if I remember right though.
