Pony POV Series World Building 102 'The witch isn't coming back' · 7:22am Feb 14th, 2015

Let this be heard and understood: Chrysalis no longer exists in the pony pov series core timeline. Her Tarot, The Hunger, has become The Passion, so she no longer exists as a Concept, Kifuko has taken her place. Kifuko is NOT Chrysalis, Chrysalis no longer exists even as a shadow of existence, she is deader than dead. The shadow of existence who get eaten when a draconequus is developing a state of being are more "alive" than Chrysalis. She's not erased from history nor from memories of others But let's be crystal clear that Chrysalis is no more, not as a ghost, not as a shade, not as a split personality, not as a lingering sapient bit of magic. Kifuko is a completely independent being from Chrysalis' evil, she is NOT Chrysalis in any shape or form. Chrysalis is completely POOF.

Well then *clears throat* Ding dong, the witch is dead, which old witch? The wicked witch! Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead! (I regret nothing.)

*Sweetie Belle looks at you sadly with a black band around one leg.*

2795203

Ah. Right, Sweetie Belle, do you mind if I'm perfectly honest with you?

2795204

Sweetie Belle sadly looks down, breaths in deep and says, "Chryssy was a wicked witch and the world is better off without her. . . "

2795206

In all honesty, yes. It is. I won't deny that she did do some good things and that you do miss her, but the evil in her heart outweighed the good. It was for the best, I'm afraid. Besides, who knows what the future holds, perhaps Kifuko will look up to you when she's older.

Princess Luna, "All ye say tis true. But here is a word of warning. Do not disturb a black mage in mourning."

2795214

That does sound like a good idea, yes. I think for my own health, I'll heed your warning.

2795218

Sweetie, "If I don't mourn her, nopony will."

2795230

And I'm not saying you shouldn't.

(remembering the part of Sleeper where the Leader's Nose, the last part of him surviving from which the dictatorship was planning on cloning a new one, gets run over by the steamroller)

Seriously, though, I have a very different though still very hoist-by-her-own-petard ending planned for her in The Fall of Hive Hunger-Prime, and though her ultimate fate is going to be a bit ambiguous, the fact that thousands of years later Changelings scattered across a million million worlds still remember her ... as the villain of a cautionary fairy tale about the dangers of following an evil cause, who nymphs are warned may still be lurking somewhere to gobble up bad little Changelings who don't mind their nurses ... says something about her ultimate failure.

It's not like the clone would BE him. And if they had his memories and personality on file, they could just download that into a new body with a new face.

2795324

Sweetie Belle sighed, "Chryssy . . . "

...Wasn't that obvious? Was this really a huge issue?

2798053

I felt it was obvious. But given how 'death is cheap' in some works of fiction, and how some people thought Chrysalis was a villain sue, I felt I had to make it clear she'd been completely annihilated and RECYCLED.

Huh. That wouldn't have been my complaint. My complaint would have been that it seemed to take a bit too long to beat her, yes, but I got the impression that was more because you had a huge cast of characters and tried to give them all stuff to do before it resolved.

I'm not saying that it should have been quick or easy, of course, but there are a lot of fairly long chapters between her attack and her final defeat.
