Which Pokemon for Which Pony (About No Game No Life) Part 1 · 11:39pm Jan 16th, 2015
So, announcement for those reading my NGNL story and even those of you who don't and just want to help. Somewhere down the line I'm planning a Pokemon tournament. And not having touched the games since before Black and White, I have no idea of any new pokemon that have been created since then. While I could spend a month examining the states of every new pokemon myself. I thought it would be easier just to ask you guys which pokemon would be good for which pony. I'll be asking over series of blog posts in order to narrow it down to 6 pokemon for each of the seven ponies? I want it to be fair so same types are allowed. Also should it be 6 on 6 or less? I'll ask for specific names later. Here goes.
Which TYPE of Pokemon would each pony prefer. Just type, I don't want specifics yet. These are my initial thoughts. I haven't put much thought into it yet. So give me your suggestions and reasoning. Thanks!

How could I not read it?
Well, this is just off the top of my head, but it would take longer if I had a reference point. Hold on to your badges, I'm about to go crazy . . . .
Twilight is the intellectual type. I imagine she would be a strategist, implementing status ailments and entry hazards in her battle style. I'd give her Psychic-types, but also include a handful of Ghost and Dark-types that can learn such moves as Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp, Sticky Web and Stealth Rock.
Potential team: Solrock, Gengar, Medicham, Espeon, Ninetales, Klefki
Pinkie is the party animal. Which means she may choose her team based almost entirely on their looks and their levels of energy. I'd give her anything from the Electric, Flying, Psychic and Fairy-types, with a few Grass and Water-types, as well. Anything that can learn Swords Dance, Petal Dance, Teeter Dance and Quiver Dance would be good too.
Potential team: Ludicolo, Spinda, Maractus, Grumpig, Roserade, Rotom
Sweetie Belle is young and inexperienced. That being said, giving her a team of Pokemon that are underleveled or unevolved may put her at a disadvantage. Giving her a team with a lot of Defense and HP would be a good way to go; she also doesn't seem like the type of trainer who would go on the offensive too often.
Potential team: Wobbuffet, Carbink, Umbreon, Blissey, Florges, Milotic
Rainbow Dash doesn't think things through. She would be purely offensive. Fighting, Flying and Electric types would be a good places to start, but a lot of "glass cannon" Pokemon, like Fire-types and Ice-types, would be her style, as well.
Potential team: Hitmonchan, Pidgeot, Zebstrika, Talonflame, Weavile, Ninjask
Lyra strikes me as a tomboy, much like Dash. But her style may be a little more sophisticated than Dash's. I can see Lyra using a lot of Bug-types, things with both speed and agility to sweep the field and cause damage, with a hint of Poison to wear down the foe.
Potential team: Scizor, Heracross, Donphan, Beedrill, Tentacruel, Rhyperior
Octavia would be tricky to evaluate. She seems to be the classy type, and seems to warrant a classy team. Something with a lot of defense, with some stall tactics, I think (gimme a break, I haven't even heard Octavia speak!)
Potential team: Gliscor, Clefable, Slowbro, Forretress, Sylveon, Drapion
Vinyl seems like an offensive player that likes to get under her opponent's skin and slow them down. I'm thinking . . . Electric-types for her, straight through. She's not stupid, though, she'd know their weaknesses and counter them in any way.
Potential team: Eelektross, Galvantula, Electivire, Abomasnow, Flygon, Lanturn
Again, that's just off the top of my head, no references or anything. With more time and a look at Bulbapedia, I could craft something workable for all of them.
I like your ideas, except maybe Lyra uses Normal? I think most of the sound/musically-inclined Pokemon are normal.
I have some ideas for what Pokémon each pony should have. The Pokémon aren’t tailored to one type, but instead ones that I think each matches that particular pony well for various reasons like their personality or similarities. I also think that they should all have one Pokémon that can Mega Evolve. Explanations for some of them.
Octavia – Mega Evolution: Lucario,
Pinkie – Mega Evolution: Absol(Can also sense disasters), Ludicolo(loves to party and is always happy and dancing), Spoink(literally always hopping), Totodile(small alligator that is always biting things), Drifloon(balloon), Vanilluxe(ice cream)
Sweetie Belle – Mega Evolution: Gardevoir Blastoise,
Vinyl – Mega Evolution: Manectric Metagross Ampharos,
Twilight – Mega Evolution: Alakazam(high IQ), Rapidash(should be obvious), Bagon(small, wingless dragon like Spike), Noctowl(), Espeon(), Uxie(being of knowledge, should be allowed a legendary since she’s an alicorn princess)
Lyra – Mega Evolution: Beedrill, Kricketune,
Rainbow Dash – Mega Evolution: Pidgeot, Hawlucha(flying and fighting type), Latios(travels at mach speed(if you won’t allow legendaries, then Garchomp), Castform(changes with the weather), Altaria(clouds),
