You know, I have no idea why I love strange ships. I always have. I just can't help but ship something few if anyone else do. It's actually quite fun to challenge myself to see if it could work.
Raricord was one of them. It was my first crack pairing idea (I'm not sure how 'crack' Dislestia is at this point.) I'm going to honest people, if I had never read An Apple A Day by Craine, Love Needs No Reason would be a tad bit different because of it. (I kind of wanted to be the first of that pairing.)
Yet, why Applejack over Rarity?
Well, I think it's because I could easily get Rarity and Discord to pair up. I mean, both of them are incredibly flamboyant, over-acting, showboats. Honestly, if I did pair them, it would be just a few one shots. (Unless I decided to include kids, then I could make a long story about that.)
Applejack on the other hand wouldn't get along with Discord, not at first however. While Love Needs No Reason is a comedy, it's actually kind of a deconstruction of romance stories, while at the same time trying to actually work up to the romance. I mean, I do love romance stories, but they too often have both characters head over heels for one another. That's okay for one shots, but full length stories? Nah, Discord's got to work for that apple booty.

However, perhaps...nah, I don't think I should, but maybe...nah! I don't think Rarity...Threesome?.....I"M BEGINNING TO SOUND LIKE CADANCE!
It doesn't help that I haven't come up with a pairing for Rarity in this world. (Teased a couple and some thoughts, but nothing surefire.)
So yeah, I just wanted to get that off my chest. So, if you have any thoughts, remarks, or suggestions about what you want to see or anything to help improve my work, you write them below. It's much appreciated.

Yeah, it'd actually be a fascinating concept. (I'm not exactly a fan of harems and stuff like that, but Discord could pull it off better than anyone.) I mean, I've deconstructed a lot of romance tropes and such in this fic, maybe some stuff in our own fandom could be nice under scrutiny.

Well, it'd be hard to find a good reason for Applejack to join Rarity & Discord, but I think that a good writer can write almost everything in a convincing way. And I consider you to be a good writer. There are many possibilities, depending whether you want to focus more on comedy or on emotions and real romance. Knowing you, you will probably try to balance both things.

2685772 Well, it's not more so Applejack joining the other two, it'd be more of Applejack letting Rarity in, since she and Discord would be kind of a thing. (And that's she's never been in love before.) Though, given that both she and Discord are both friends with Rarity, I don't think it would be too hard, but most definitely would I have to think it through.
Still, I can think of the hilarity of it all. Applejack would have to deal with the two biggest hams of the show.
OK now that's just dumb.
2685903 Let's not be too hasty. This was just an early concept idea I had before I decided to go with Applejack. Again, I found Applejack the more interesting choice.
Will I do the three together? Probably not. (I'm not exactly a fan of harem stories. I kind of avoid them.) It all matters how I feel after this story is finished. If I do, it's probably going to end up quite long to actually build on it.
As it stands, most likely not since I already had some sequels for this story planned, just dealing with Applejack and Discord.

With Rarity, it's a bit of a boring ship, as these is very little to go by. With Applejack, you get the element of honesty meet with a mischievous and distrustful creature. There's a side of confliction there between the two. That's interesting. I wanna see how that happens.

I have said it before, and I will say it again: I avoid harem stories, so I very much doubt I could justly do one. (Even if I could, Applejack is the last mare I'd see in a harem.)

Alex, this is a blog of mine. Pretty much anything I put in my blogs is mostly just to get everything off my chest, such as I entertained the idea of Raricord, but dropped it because it'd be more fun to have them just be friends.
The threesome thing was a joke referring to Cadance. Nothing more. I already have a few ideas (not Spike though. Sorry.) of who I want to pair her up with, Discord isn't a member of that group.
I will agree with you that harems are a bad idea. No, it's not bad, it's lazy. ( hero has two love choices. Get both because 'easy solutions'
) Lazy. (Not to mention I hate harem tropes like the plague.)
Rest assured, I very much doubt I will ever write a harem story.

My only thought is that Rarity should be pretty sympathetic to Discord, because of what she went through in Inspiration Manifestation. She actually reminded me a lot of Discord in that episode, except replace the word "chaos" with "stylish." The main difference is, her compulsion to remake the world in her image faded when the curse was broken, whereas for Discord it's part of his core nature, and can only be repressed through his own hard work and desire for friendship.
