New Article: Chaos in the New Lunar Republic · 1:22pm Dec 22nd, 2014

Got a new post for you guys. This is actually about some older drama that's fizzled out by now, but it was still a big enough deal to warrant an after-action report regardless. We'll probably get around to talking about past drama as well that we missed, so, there's that too. In the meantime, it would pretty helpful if you guys could offer insights on past notable drama we haven't covered already.

Also, Karma has also posted a short followup on the most recent news concerning the shutdown of Twilight's Library, which you can find here. Yeah, short little update here, but I'm currently busy with other matters for the moment; mostly things having to do with us branching out from just drama. With any luck, I'll be posting it soon, since we really do need to hear some feedback on our plans before anything's set in stone.

I think we can all agree that this incident proves that democracy has failed, and that we should never have questioned the divine and absolute rule of our solar queen.

Well, the whole NLR/Solar Empire thing is beating a dead pony anyway...

2670129

Aye. That it was. I'm not even sure what the group being talked about here was even for. Fics about the NLR, I'd guess, but I can't imagine that many of them still get written today.

2670132
I've seen some. But well, people still write TCB fics or Cupcakes sequels, even though those ponies are so dead even beating them is basically punching chips of bone into the ground...

2670323

Well, with Cupcakes sequels and TCB that's more an issue of originality you're discussing. I'm already well-acquainted with the concept of talentless authors repeatedly playing out the same tired ideas with only minor differentials. But with NLR, I'm more thinking of the fact that it's based on outdated fanon. I know there are plenty of 'verses and longfics still going that are based on older interpretations of the show (the Fallout: Equestria universe springs to mind), but NLR vs. Solar Empire was invalidated as a concept, and as far as I know, there aren't any big name fics or 'verses based on it that are still around to carry it.

I think this is great. I don't like the group anyway. Nothing significant ever gets done there.

2670406
Yeah. I'm trying hard, but I can't recall any significant NLR vs. Solar Empire fic. The recursive fanfics of Cupcakes, Rainbow Factory, Fallout: Equestria, Past Sins, and whatever comes to your mind were created based on some popular story. NLR? Can't think of any.

Based on what we understand, fic storage was only part of its use. It looks to have been an NLR roleplaying group for the most part. But with that practice banned onsite now, and with that RP website they had being rendered defunct thanks to the admin who was running it being demoted and leaving... well, it doesn't look like the group has much purpose in this day and age, really. Not any practical ones, at least.

(Also, minor off-the-record sidenote, but you have no idea how hard it was not to turn the article into an outright mockery/roasting of that place. It's funny, sad, and just a lost cause altogether. Honestly, these people are acting like children, and the drama only seems to exemplify that...)

2670469

Exactly. Hence my confusion. All NLR has to base itself around is the song. And it's a good song, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't even have lyrics. I wouldn't think with all that against it that people would still be writing NLR fics today.

2670497

And yet they do still seem to have over 500 fics stored there. Are those all strictly NLR-related, or are they just Luna fics in general?

Also, if you feel something is worth mocking in future, just do it. Or at least send a tip to Horse News. Objective reporting like this has value when the drama is based around complex, multi-sided issues, but if it really is just childish squabbling, we have a duty to mine it for as much comedy value as possible.

A quick skim reveals that the story folders are in... less than organized condition.

That probably speaks volumes about the general state of the folders now. Very few people seem to be moderating them, if at all. It's a little sad, really.

You have a point, yes, but it hasn't been long since TL capsized, and in the wake of that drama I didn't think it would be smart to turn right around and post something potentially seen as inflammatory so soon. Though I do agree there could have been at least a tinge bit more smarminess added to it than there was. Oh well, live and learn.

2670574

Well, I think I've seen all I needed to see about this group.

Looking forward to your next article.

2670526
Apparently, that song was easy to interpret...

2670574

A young group of rag tag rebels rise up against immense odds to fight the corrupt Celestia's tyranny,

I think I'm gonna read this fic just because of the sheer idiocy of that premise...

Edit: Long description is even better.

I guess it must've been.

Not sure if it's just me, but I found this article to be far better written than the first article regarding Twilight's Library. The former gave me the feeling that I wasn't getting the full story--perhaps due to the various stealth edits--while I am quite happy with the quality of this one. Less tabloid and more news, I suppose.

It's out of my place to say so, but I think documenting any revisions on future articles would improve their quality.

The first article was hastily-written with incomplete information, I will confess. It was edited and changed here and there constantly as we learned new information. (This event, conversely, already died out, and much of the information we needed to know was provided and displayed before us quite easily and accessibly.) Which is, unfortunately, going to be a problem with drama that's still ongoing, given that facts can change fast, and it's hard to separate conjecture from the hard facts in the initial rush. Such is the problem with fast-response journalism; we may need to be a little more careful about jumping the gun, however.

If an article ever needed to be completely revised, we would most certainly post a notice saying so, but in that other case it was a matter of changing details as they became known. We did manage to stick mainly to the essential facts of the matter; there were more intricate machinations as well that involved TL itself during this time, but they were minor enough to not warrant a full mention. It was a learning experience, if nothing else; I'm actually not the best article-writer the staff has on hand, but Karma was busy at the time, and Rockfarmer is still out on that trip.

Nevertheless, I will take those points into consideration, so, thank you.
