Stay: Last thoughts. · 3:22am Sep 25th, 2014

Well, it finally happened. I wrote and published Stay's continuation.

Feeling it as a hard goodbye to my first breakout fiction, here's a post dedicated to Word of God, All There in the Manual, What Could Have Been and other ideas left in the inkwell.

The changelings are what H.R. Giger would have designed for kids.
I have this special head canon, about how changelings work. I see them as SFW xenomorphs (hence I'm calling their guard praetorian). So, just like any species, they depend on genetic variability to survive. But in the same way with the Aliens, they get that variability from other species. What I think is that a changeling queen (Chrysalis) can select a good specimen (Shining) and use any trace of DNA (like blood or other NSFW sources) and use said material to give birth to a queen type changeling (hence why the queen has more equine features than drones and praetorian)

Chrysalis never fully recovered.
She managed to get a hold on levitation and soft magic use, but the impressive things like death-rays and shape-shifting were beyond her since the Canterlot Invasion.

This is a Chrysalis Coming of Age Story.
When they returned to the hive, she managed to stay as their queen by pulling all the gambits in the book to stop any insurrection or revolution from happening. Then, when Jimmy appeared, she realized how she became obsessed with holding her authority, instead of looking for the well being of her people. This culminated with Please's climax where she offers her crown to the human if he stays.
And the continuation focus on Monarch to reflect the generational change.

Monarch suffers from vertigo (just for fun).
She managed to fly a couple of weeks after the diaries events. But in her first high-altitude flight she discovered she actually doesn't like being to far from the ground.

James actually IS Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen...
...from Earth Prime. That universe without super-heroes but that still is can interacts with other less-mundane ones.

When Monarch first met Shining, she kicked him in the...
...face, in the face (I bet that at least three people thought of the groin).
Although Monarch is not completely informed of the whole picture, she kinda understands that Shinning and Cadence acted in self-defense. That doesn't means that she has forgiven them for almost killing her mother and brothers, so, when those too first stepped into the Hive Castle (I really like writing that name) she and Jimmy were the only ones who weren't totally frightened of them. After some awkward moments, Shining commented how he never expected someone like Chrysalis would raise the sweet and nice Monarch [insert kick sound effect here].

Monarch was going to be like Damian Wayne (a.k.a. the comically serious).
I always liked the drama of Chrysalis having her deadly rival's baby. It's like Thalia al Ghul having Batman's son. In fact, a very early draft included Monarch talking with Damian Wayne's lines, including the iconic *tt* from Morrison's comics.

This is a personal attack to sad fictions.
As I don't like sad fics that only end badly (kill em all, Gainax, etc.) I decided to secure the characters and give them their happy ending. So, in the case that anyone (including me if I'm feeling like doing it) decides to continue with this story, even those who only wants to make things to go grim and gritty, are now limited by the fact that at the end, they will have their good end.

This is different from others HiE.
I'm not really a big fan of HiE. You know what, scratch that. I'm no fan of HiE, period.
The only ones that come to my mind as 'good ones' (without counting crossovers) are The Man With Two Names and Nightmare Knot (I highly recommend them). I think it turned out as an atypical HiE because I'm mostly outside of the genre and I'm not even aware of what are the common tropes used.

And my real goal with all of that was...
...to have a TVtropes page. Since I started to write it's been my ultimate target to see one of my stories being analyzed and exposed in the fanboy's wiki.
I'm not asking anyone here to go and create http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/FanFic/Stay, just wanted to share the thought.

Same here, I once tried to write one for Regeneration but got distracted by the story, then I started to reread it from beginning to end and then I realized it was three in the morning.:derpyderp2:

Wait, what does say there? *gets closer to the screen*:trixieshiftleft:
:trixieshiftright:Oh, don't worry. *dramatic gun cock* I'll give you five seconds to run.

I'd say you mean Tragedy fics rather then Sad but I get your point. I don't mind a sad fic if handled with maturity like your but I despise most Tragedy fics as they almost always end with me wondering what the point was since everyone died in the end.

Alzo love your Shining concept!

Well, tragedy it is (contextualized translation can be tricky).
Glad to know that someone gets the point. When I started writing, I decided to take some kind of bow (not an oath since nobody took my word unless you count the big guy above). Part of that bow included this phrase:
-Only a bitter little adolescent boy could confuse realism with pessimism.- Grant Morrison, one othe greatest writers out there.

And Shining seems to be the kind of guy who would try to set things right but is too nervous that eventually will screw it up.

2483715 I like Shining but get your point right away. Also guessing that its a translation issue you mean vow now bow right? :twilightblush:

Sure let's go with that.
(DAMN YOU GOOGLE TRANSLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!)
