Meta fics · 11:04am Sep 14th, 2014
(Pic unrelated... I think...)
So apparently I've transferred from writing "songfics" to writing "pseudo-meta" fics. I have no idea what that means or whether that makes any sense at all, but I like saying stuff after combining it with the word "pseudo"...
Anyway, the site has a rule against "meta," although the definition it employs, as far as I can tell, only refers to stories that try to insert specific stuff from the brony community (FimFiction, etc.) and make statements about them directly. A fair cop, because the lack of such a filter would result in an avalanche of "OMG THIS AUTHOR WAS MEAN TO ME!!1!11!" style fics and other nonsense. However, to me, "meta" refers to a story that is nothing more than a fic about ponies in and of itself, yet the details can also be interpreted as subtle hints at issues within the real world, particularly in the brony fandom. Not just general "life stuff," but stuff we recognize as recurring themes in the community. Stuff like how we all relate to FiM, what message does it truly send, how non-bronies might view it, how we deal with each other as bronies, etc.
That said, any of you know of good examples of this?
Stories that do this blatantly and tongue-in-cheek don't count...
Also: plugging a fic again because reasons.
I'm the same with quasi.

And once again I had to look it up to clarify the distinction in my head...

We can't all be writers.
... Wait.
We can't all be editors.

Yup. We're just puny little writers...
