For me, having an alicorn OC means nothing else but that I'm a unicorn who can fly, nothing else.
I understand where the general hate towards alicorn OCs are coming from. Back in the time of Season 1, we only had two alicorns: Celestia and Luna. Therefore, if someone chose an alicorn OC as his/her ponysona, it meant that he/she elevated him/herself to that level, which at that time thought to be practically god-level.
But since that, lots of things changed.
We got Season 2, where
-We were introduced to Cadence, who is an alicorn, yet I would never say that she is superior to ponies like unicorn Twilight or Starswirl the Bearded or any other powerful unicorn magic user.
-We have seen Celestia being knocked out, with that showing that the alicorns are not invulnerable and not omnipotent.
Then we got Season 3, where
-Twilight became an alicorn, increasing the number of alicorns to 4
Then we got Season 4, where
-We saw Twilight living her daily life as alicorn, and we could clearly see that she didn't become a superior creature or something like that. She was just a unicorn with wings, living her daily life. (Also we saw numerous animation errors, resulting more alicorns 
)
So I don't see any problem with me or someone else choosing to have an alicorn OC as his/her ponysona. Not to mention that one could even say that they're actually a unicorn who cast a temporary wing on their sides. Who could tell the difference?
However, I'm open to discussion. If you tell me a good reason, why alicorn OCs are still bad, I'm perfectly fine with redrawing myself as a unicorn. I can conjure butterfly wings for myself if I wanna fly anytime. 
Because usually, alicorn OCs are inserted into stories that are bad anyway, full of cliches and self-insert or classic HiE. They've effectively ruined the alicorn OC. Not to mention that it's very easy to give the alicorn unlimited power of some sort. Oh, he can turn back time? Yup. Character development of these alicorns is overlooked in place of their abilities, which are so powerful they should be a villain.
So now, if a story contains an alicorn OC, there's instant dislike. That market has been butchered by the red and black alicorn OCs, effectively.
I don't mind alicorns myself, and as for the stories I mean, I don't even read them. The description says enough. I didn't go mental over Twilight's coronation in Season 3. I just watched and laughed at those who did. I also like to think that in the actual Power Ponies universe, the real Masked Matter-Horn is actually a pegasus with a artificial horn that's limited to a variety of lazor beamz. It's not much; just taking a potential alicorn and reducing it to a pegasus, but eh. I haven't read Past SIns either, so I know next to nothing about Nyx. Not planning on reading it much either.

If I wasn't wrong, Cadence used to be a Pegasus before her Ascension. So if anyone want to be an alicorn OC, you better have a good aspect backing you up. (Although Twilight as Princess of Friendship are stupid, Princess of Magic are more reasonable.)
2390810 They could make a spin-off with Cadence, showing her path to ascension. My Little Pony: Love is Magic. It could be a teenager story about living in a high school and having pointless romances with shallow characters, then finding the... Oh wait, that's Equestria Girls.
(In all seriousness, I would really love to see the story of Cadence as a spin-off series, with lots of cute filly Twilight moments.

I agree, people give alicorn OC's too much hate
It's because a lot of them are made poorly. Most of the Alicorn OCs you see about don't follow those types of limitations you talk about, and most of them aren't treated like a unicorn with wings (or Pegasus with a horn, depending on how you see it), but rather some all-powerful creature with no flaws that can't be defeated, as well as having a myriad of other Mary Sue-esque traits. 2390576 mentioned Alicorn OCs in stories, and that's where all the hate comes from. It's because that they've continually been used so poorly in stories that people have started to assume all are like that (see: community hatred of "7th Element of Harmony OCs" and "OCs that fall in love with Twilight"). They're under the same blanket statement, a host of bad stories done about them has essentially ruined them. Not to say that Alicorn OCs are difficult to make well, but they're difficult to have received well.

Contains Cadence's ascension story. Book canon is, of course, questionable. I think the back story is nice, though, although a lot of other parts of this book aren't so nice.

I can see the logic in this. Most people simply come off and say 'hey, my avatar is an Alicorn!' When we ask why or how they simply say 'just because'. Now, they way I see it, there are many ways to have an adequate backstory for an Alicorn OC, but nobody ever thinks about it. For one, there's the Unicorn/Pegasi mates. They could, under unique circumstances, produce alicorn offspring, but the circumstance would be unique, and nearly impossible to replicate. Then, there is, of course, using a spell. This method is probably the easiest....if you're a unicorn. Then there's ascension, which is the longest, hardest and , possibly, the most fatal, but it leaves you feeling more accomplished when the goal is reached. So, there are many ways to look at it.

True, plus some of these people using alicorn as an avatar often called them either Princess or Prince. And often portray themselves as too powerful. That's why it is unacceptable. I mean you can make yourself alicorn but they don't even make their own backstory. Plus, each of these alicorn I have seen often represent some kind of aspect like Celestia aspect is the sun and Luna is the moon. Twilight and Cadence became alicorn through ascension. Twilight represent Magic (but Hasbro decided for Friendship.....) and Cadence is Love. Example of good Alicorn OC is like this one. This Alicorn aspect is Soul. He became that said aspect because he understand how pure the soul is and how easily it is to be corrupted. So he became souls defender and later ascend to became alicorn and still continue to preserve soul purity.

All very true. And besides, as far as anyone knows, Celestia and Luna were born Alicorns. They earned their cutie marks and powers later. Well, as far as we know, anyway, though we all can assume what we want, right?
I figure plenty of folks have already given the myriad of reasons alicorn ocs tend to get a lot of hate. I'm more chiming in on the idea that you should change your oc if someone can give a good argument. I dunno how facetious this was, but I'd be sad to see your lil dude without his cute wingies.
