All things must come to an end,

All things must come to an end, and that time is near. H'ven Sent is almost at its intended conclusion. The final chapter has been written, and now needs checking over and tweaking.

    Off the rails.

Life has been a bit awkward of late, including multiple trips to doctors, dentists, catscans, an ambulance trip due to chest pains (fortunately NOT my heart), so the latest chapter has been a real struggle to get out.

    Break out the bubbly

Break out the bubbly (not that I drink). I have half a chapter written. Boy, was this chapter a tough nut to crack. Difficult decisions. How to get it to hold together. Most importantly, going back to the root of the idea - what started this adventure. Originally, I expected this would be about chapter two...

Thumbs down to whoever left a thumbs down without so much as a comment. · 9:50am Aug 13th, 2014

Thumbs down to whoever left a thumbs down without so much as a comment.

It seems to me there are people that give the thumbs down, just because they can. Perhaps it was merely because the story wasn't what they wanted to read. It has nothing to do with the quality of what is there. If you don't like something, shut up and move on. No one is forcing you to read it. If you have suggestions on how to improve things, leave a comment. Save the thumbs down for garbage that is so poorly written it is unreadable, if you must use it at all. The first person do leave a thumbs down on this story didn't even stop long enough to READ it. It was up with in moments of me posting the first chapter. Thumbs down to you too.

There's a number of reason people leave thumbs down without comment, such as disagreeing with the general topic of a story, not liking the story after reading it but not wanting a confrontation, or even things like not liking the author or someone else having told them to.

I haven't read H'ven Sent, don't follow it, and can't remember if I've even looked at the page for it (I ended up here from FoE:WnH).

I recommend not stressing about the thumbs down too much. Typically the people that leave them don't hang around to be talked to aftwards. And the ones that downvote and hang around afterwards are typically vocal, persistant, and unlikely to change their stance (in which case, you'ld probably have a comment to respond to). They also tend to be attention seekers, but that's not always true.

Also, Fimfiction doesn't have a button to say "I am not interested in this story, please stop showing it to me without negatively affecting its standing". Same as they don't give an option to follow a story's updates without endorsing it as a 'favorite'. It's a flawed system that enforces certain biases, and I suspect they do it that way because they want it that way.

Mostly the post was about me wanting to vent my spleen about that sort of behavior. I don't see my comments making the slightest difference to their attitudes, but at least it got it out of my system.

2366817 Ah, OK. I understand.

RevelRomp pretty much said what I was going to. Don't stress out about it. Getting a downvote feels pretty bad, and you question the whole chapter, but the fact of the matter is that some people leave downvotes for really, REALLY minor things. I can absolutely see someone reading the first chapter, not liking the idea of the manipulator fingers on thier hooves, and downvoting for THAT. It has nothing to do with the quality of the story.

Now, it COULD be for some legitimate complaint, but you'll never know. Either you beat yourself up about something you did "wrong" that you'll never know, or you recognize that it cod just as easily be something stupid like, "I don't like stories with OC protagonists."

You're bound to get a downvote sooner or later. Everybody does.

I absolutely HATE that. (And you absolutely have a right to be angry about it. Somebody has been an absolute douche to you for no reason, and that is horrible.)

RevelRomp and Wade are correct; downvotes are unavoidable for any story that's at all interesting (and, in small numbers, might almost be considered a sign of quality), and people downvote for lots of reasons, some good, some not so much.

I know I've read stories that I did not merely not want to read, but considered not worth reading, but didn't feel like explaining exactly why (especially if the flaw stemmed from a fundamental difference in assumptions of some sort) and so just thumbed those down silently.

I would suspect the timing of the downvote(s) were coincidental.

I have to stand on the line here.
Overreacting.
Though the person in question is a meanie pants.
It is the internet, it is gonna happen, its unavoidable.
Just ignoring it and moving on is the best solution.
We are the Borg, you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.
Yay venting.
Also, 36.5:1 vote rating, that's still amazing.

2368959 Overreacting? Maybe. As I said below, I was venting, to get it out of my system. All the same, it takes a lot of work to get one thumbs up, and the pettiest reason to get on thumbs down. It's not just the thumbs down either - it's the total lack of explanation behind it. It is meaningless by itself. It serves no purpose.

2369103 I know, frustrating isn't it?:pinkiecrazy:

To be honest, the subject matter and certain concepts you introduce can be hard to digest. Your world is kind of shocking and unorthodox, which only makes it cooler in my eyes, but can be a bit of a sore to the more prudent on FiMFiction

That being said, I despair at how under-appreciated 'H'ven Sent' is. You had me riveted, nay, bolted to the chair with how amazing it was, all revealed little by little. Your characters are smart and self-aware, even if sometimes they tend to be uniformly over-thinking something. I'ma gonna try and convince more people to read this masterpiece. Carry on
