Handyman

I don't know what you're talking about, I've always looked like this.

Damn this is useful, also news. · 3:36pm Aug 1st, 2014

Good news is? I can legit get away with calling forelegs arms.

Also next two chapters are done, just waiting on my two editors to have a once over. So expect them Monday, provided I don't get impatient.

Bad news?

Don't expect happy things.

happy things for Handy? the universe and god is fucking with him in every change, so happy things equal instant bad things.

2334733 But of course.

2334744 i thought so too. Anyway, either i got the wrong idea, or you have been hinting Shortbeak / Handy pairing for last (few?) chapters. Won't ask about it (and you will not answer if i'm wrong or correct) , just mentioning that you made it seem that way (in case you didn't notice it yourself, though i'm pretty sure you either have some plans in that way or you are just screwing with people)

So anyway, noticed that the Fimfiction has slowed down in updates in last few months because of summer. What are your thoughts of when the authors start updating their stories in normal pace? (you also seem to have been slowing down, if compared to some earlier updates)

2334830 To answer your first question, my attitudes to romance in fanfiction is that I am constantly underwhelmed by both the manner and attitudes people take to writing it, too eager to get to the good parts, too hamfisted in how they write the characters involved, to focused on the gratification. And alot of this has to do with how people respond to it. I do not care for it, it is poorly handled and I am in no mood to imitate it. Alternatively people tease a specific ship so long when it is so obviously a major part of any two given characters' respective plots and development it only serves to aggravate the audience, the 'sailor moon' syndrome if you will.

I can safely say I will not be doing either extreme in this fiction, nor will I confirm whether or not I will be doing romance at all, at least as far as the main character is concerned. If romance happens, the characters are going to be established long before anything amorous occurs. Secondary, side and background characters can have all the romance they want. Readers are free to speculate and imply all they want, however, I can't very well stop them. If you think I have been teasing a certain ship, then that's entirely your interpretation.

As for your second question; dry seasons happen, even when it concerns literature, markets have off periods, fields go certain months where nothing grows, seasons come and go. Fimfic may have been slow over the summer, but I wouldn't be able to comment on that, I've only been here since February, and BM is the only thing I've written larger then 20k words so I can't comment on other author's difficulties in updating regularly.

In my case my failure to update more regularly is, simply, I got a job and I have other pursuits in my leisure time including multiple story and character based emergent storytelling projects that I play with several friends. That and other more personal difficulties including writer's block, good old fashioned procrastination and occasionally not giving enough of a fuck on a given day. Also whether or not I had a sandwich that morning. Its an important, decisive factor.

My earlier updating speed and schedule was myself stress testing my writing abilities, BM afterall, is only writing practice, as that is how it started before it became a test bed for everything I love and hate about the fantasy genre. I was currently unemployed and games were not keeping my attention, blogs, news websites, forums and such were not fully sating my creative need. So I typed up the prologue in the course of two afternoons and posted it, getting only a few comments and views. I feel self conscious about advertising and the amount of stories in the feature box containing *ahem* 'mass market appeal' sickened me, so I didn't post the story in too many groups (JBL has since expanded the group list of his own volition) and decided to see how well I can do on fimfic by 'brute forcing it' and just making my story impossible to not notice on the recently updated list. Which proved wonders when I started updating almost daily by forcing myself to sit down and write, almost in a stream of consciousness. Eventually rewarding myself with enhancing my ability from 9k words off and on over the course of two days to a personal best of 14k words between the hours of 9am and 12pm when I type flat out (poor by professional standards but it was a significant improvement)

Since then, I've slowed down by necessity, it eventually clear I needed a second or third pair of eyes over my work and other factors at play conspired to slow me right the fuck down in terms of my work output. Time will tell if I'll return to my old schedule and output, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.

2334892 1. I fully agree and understand you in your answer to first question. You however simply confused me with Chapter 20 (24 in the update list, if you count prologue, two interludes and april fools day update) with how Shortbeak's though line *’If he were only a griffon…’ * and in later (chapter 23, update list 17) with her reaction to realizing she had slept under Handy's cloak.

However, you didn't deny or admit anything, so i'll keep an eye on that, but i wont hold my breath (starting to look however it might be just one-sided crush). And please don't spoil anything.

2. You explained your reasoning to second question good enough so that i wont bother you about it. And i won't hold my breath on your update schedule. (though maybe i should take example and update my own stories little more often while making them longer)

2334965 I can confirm, however, that you aren't the only one asking me about Shortbeak.

No one else has gotten a straighter answer either so you're in good company.

2335001 i didn't want a straight answer. i just wanted to know if you made it intentionally (which you kinda admitted, though simply not saying it straight) , but it still leaves the two choices, first being that there's something and second is that your just screwing with us.

So anyway, whatever you do, don't spoil anything. It would ruin the story if you did, so i (and all other readers) will be guessing what happens next. At least Handy doesn't die....or does he? (don't answer that)

2335004 I promise nothing.

2335008 i wouldn't have it any other way. Anyway, don't let me keep you distracted, start planning the next chapter (not the one your editors are working on, the ones after those) and Keep up the good work. Your story, which at first few months ago didn't look interesting to read, is a masterpiece among the stories in here Fimfiction.

So yeah, don't let me keep you distracted and please start planning the next chapter.

2335016 I am glad you've been enjoying it and humbled that you think so. But I wouldn't go so far as to call it anything like that until its finished, there's plenty of time left for me to go off the rails.

2335031 well, at the pace your going with both the story and updates, i wouldn't put it past you to try to make it over 500K words before it starts to go anywhere near the end.

2335034 Well the story started, in Universe early-to mid summer, the prologue gives a rough year and a half estimate before we catch up to where the prologue started us with.

It is now mid autumn.

You can speculate how many words it'd take for us to get from where we are to next summer and from there to the winter where the prologue roughly starts us with, based on how long it took us to get to where we are (keeping mind I timeskipped two months, GRRRR, I didn't want to have to do that)

2335041 well, that's interesting to hear. I was wondering how long it was since handy arrived at Equestria.... anyway, since it's been only a very short time, it appears that you might go over 3 million words with this story. and that's only to catch up where the prologue starts, with who knows how long you plan to continue it past that. At any rate, You have the full support of us readers, so take as long as you need with this story (though it seems that i might still be reading new chapters in 2018)

2335068

(though it seems that i might still be reading new chapters in 2018)

Challenge accepted.

2335104 that's good to hear. as long as you keep yourself interested in the story and update it at least once a month, nothing but death (which i hope doesn't come anytime soon) can stop you. Oh, speaking of death, i recommend you let one of your friends know what you want with the story in case something does happen, because it's a shame when authors suddenly disappear.

Don't stop writing bro. In other words, you belong to us now.

Helpful, should ever the need arise for me to be able to locate a fictional creature's loins.
