The first of many (Or...so I hope) · 2:00pm Jul 25th, 2014
Cold Winter Night passed submissions and is now available to read. The first-story jitters have been beaten!...I think.
So, uh, the thing about this story is that I've had it written out in full about 2-3 months ago (the first draft, at least). It wasn't over the 1k-word minimum, but the general pace and story was already in place. It wasn't until about a month and a half ago that I got back to looking at it and fleshing it out to exceed that minimum and get some people to look at it, and after getting over some "first-story jitters", I suppose, it's finally released.
Overall, I wasn't exactly trying to do anything major, here. I do have plenty of story ideas, some of which are going to be fairly long affairs (those of you who have read my second blog can gather which ones those are), but I figured I'd go a little safe for my first submitted story. I'm not entirely new to writing stories like this (in a chat RP that I'm in right now I've written at least half a dozen side stories, for instance), but writing stories to a small group of people, to me, is different from writing to a larger group such as FiMFiction. It just seemed more prudent to test myself with a small story instead of starting right out with one of my bigger projects. Hence a rather simple story.
As I said in the 2nd paragraph, the story itself is pretty much the same as when I first made it: Twilight overstudies the night before her first WWW as a princess, Spike finds her and helps her clean, then they talk about why. The only thing that really changed was that I needed to flesh out the main part of the story--Twi explaining why she was up so late--more. I suppose that, if I really wanted to, I could make a small 2nd part in the morning right before they start singing "Winter Wrap-Up" like in the show, but I don't think it particularly needs it. Might not be a bad thing to try later, but not right now.
Once again, thanks to Level Dasher and Twidashforever for their help with proofreading/edits, and thanks to you all for reading. I can't rightly guarantee what story I'll write next or when I'll actually write it, but if I can get a draft going before the end of the year I'd be pretty pleased.
