    Been a while...

Hi folks. How are you doing? Been a while. I like to imagine in the great solar system that if FimFic I'm some trans-Neptunian object that only occasionally comes into view intermittently before wandering out to the cold antipodes of space to which I belong. Personally life has been the same. Some original writing. Glacial progress on Homelands, but its not dead. I'm going to be at EFNW in

    Feeling better. Also, an interview.

So my temperature is almost back to normal and I feel a lot better. Hopefully in a month or two I can get an antibody test and find out if that was C19 or just flu. Anyway, either way, doing better.

I'm also going to be doing an interview for the midair pony faire on twitch. It'll be on Horizons, Homelands, and Worldbuilding in general.

    C19, cons, and other stuff.

So 2020 sucks. It just sucks. I'm sick with something and waiting on a C19 test. Hopefully it's just a flu or some junk.
But there is something good happening on the 25th. Ponyfest Online is a discord con and I'm going to be holding an hour long discussion on character creation, evolution and development.

    and the website is

Chapter 68 is done · 11:24pm Jul 13th, 2014

It's a horrible chapter. You know when you're writing a story and you really want to get from A to B... but then something pops up in between? And then something else. And then something else. And when you're done, you look at the chapter and realize you still having gotten to B, but there's nothing you can take out? Ugh...
So yeah. Here it is.

You know when you're writing a story and you really want to get from A to B...

Not really. I usually want to get from A to B, then end up going to C instead... from D... :derpyderp2:

And after all the ranting I've done, let this be my message to you: never mind the details and the complications, just write the damn thing already! :ajsmug:

2281525 That's been my mantra for the last two years good sir. Thank you kindly. Now I need to go die of this damned cold. :pinkiesick:

Horrible?

Indeed it is, you probably ruined another one of my nights... (stupid time zones)

But I'm happy with that.

2281538

But would a cold stop Blackjack? Then why should it stop you? :ajsmug:

Actually, that might be one plot twist nobody would see coming... :trollestia:

2281525

You call that ranting? Thiiis is... actually no, let's not link to 4chan. Tis a silly place. :raritywink:

Anyways, you've been reasonably reasonable, so if you want to discuss PH further then you can head on over to Cloudsville. We don't bite... much. :pinkiecrazy:

Yep. My head keeps popping up with many sub-plots and mini-arcs to my already long story (not nearly as long as yours, though, but still)... which isn't even half done. However, as much as I wish I was done, that I had gotten to B... I find that those fragments are important, that they add a litte-

Okay, that was bullshit. Looking back, I find many things that I added for no reason other than thinking that it would be a good idea, and now I regret either having them, or not handling them better.

Still though, I am happy with all those ideas that came out of nowhere. Mostly from under hot shower. Hot water makes blood go to brain or something and that gives a boost to creativity, right?

Anyway, I understand more or less your frustration with getting sidetracked and not being able to finish your story. Even though, as I think it's the best thing ever written (even better that Game of Thrones and all Word of Warcraft's books), I will be probably depressed when it's over... strangely, I find myself slightly depressed whenever new chapter of Project Horizons comes out... I mean, with all the shit that has been happening to Blackjack as of late... and I had only started reading PH since last October-November, so when I entered the phase of "having to waiting for the next part of the story instead of reading through the chapters like crazy" I was getting a heartache everytime. Good thing I hadn't caugh up around the chapter that shall not be named, huh:pinkiesad2:?

I still don't get why you keep saying your story is horrible. It's excelent! The fact that you make fans react like I do (in case there isn't anybody else reacting like me, for the sake of what's left of my man's pride, please don't correct that statement:rainbowwild:) over the fate of a talking pony living in a post-apocaliptic world speaks volume over how well made it is.

I think I am making this comment a bit too long, so I will cut it short. Chapter was great, got a mild heartache from it, and when I catch a cold I drink milk with honey, even if it isn't helping it tastes great:twilightsmile: Hope you will get better soon:pinkiehappy:!

PS: You had to end that chapter that way, huh? It couldn't be more along the lines of what most people expected, with two bodies clashing and hooves reaching out, it had to be a little repeat of something that happened at end of a chapter about a dozen or so ago?:rainbowlaugh:

Chapter 68 is done

And it was good.:ajsmug:

Welcome to Fimfiction! It's about time you arrived! :pinkiehappy:

To be honest, I wasn't on FIMfic because I thought there wasn't a point to it till Horizons finished and it was time to port it over. I had a nightmare trying to covert simply Rarity the first time, and gave up. But going to EFNW, it was very clear that most readers have moved to FIMfic and I was losing readers by not using the site. So now I'm here.

Why do artists say their work is horrible in general. Lots of us are very insecure about our work. Saying it's horrible is a defense mechanism. If folks really don't like it, it's easier to go 'Oh, yeah, I know. Say, what could I do to make it better?' If you say your work is the best thing ever, and its not... well... it's a lot harder. I have horrible self esteem issues in general. It takes four editors telling me the story is okay for me to put it out there, because to me, what I have in my head and what's on the page is totally different. So long as people don't regret reading it at the end and enjoyed the story, I'll consider it a success though. And I've learned so much for my next project... hopefully something a bit smaller than Horizons...:twilightblush:

Excellent chapter. The end though...

... why do you do this to us, Somber?! :raritycry: WHY?!

2282090 I enjoy your story. And if your ever in the Portland area I'll buy you a beer! There.

If that is your definition of bad, this entire story must be completely terrible to you. Just because there are 24 points between A and B doesn't mean that it's a bad thing.

In other news, welcome to FiMFiction, and the insanity that is us.

2282090

False modesty is an insult to oneself. 'Tis better to be proud of one's work while presenting it, then remain humble and respectful when faced with criticism.

In other words, it's a popular thing among artists to go "yeah, my work sucks" almost as a sort of dubious disclaimer (i.e when people go "I'm not a racist, but..."), which is technically BS because no self-respecting artist would allow themselves release shitty work. Obviously, once people actually read the story, 99% of them will go "hey, this isn't so bad after all!" That's kind of cheating the system, though...

I'd say it's better to argue (within civilized boundaries, of course) in the defense of one's work instead, since that forces the authors themselves to think about what they got right, and they won't have to lie to themselves, let alone to their audience.

"Sure they can say anything about nothing happening in Across the River, all that happens is the defense of the lower Piave, the breakthrough in Normandy, the taking of Paris ... plus a man who loves a girl and dies."

—Ernest Hemingway about critical reception to Across the River and into the Trees

And if one actually seeks plenty of constructive criticism, then it's better to have an attitude that's "asking for it..." :ajsmug:

Of course, it's another thing if you no longer enjoy your works (though you still think of them as decently formed creations), which tends to happen to me as well. That is usually the reason why we move on to the next work so we can get the thrill of creating once more... :duck:

Even though I saw the notices on IRC and Cloudsville, the fimfic blog notifications are useful, especially with the permalinks and timestamp and all.

Would you prefer chapter responses on Cloudsville or on these blogpost comment sections?

It's a horrible chapter.

You're crazy. It was awesome.

Finally finished the chapter I really need to put more time on my schedule for reading. Thx for a wonderful update ☺

Read it a bit late but going to have to ask, was the grey pony that cross dressed as morning glory and called Aero a reference to the tumblr Aero Replies?

2340008 No, sorry. That's a coincidence.
