    Follow-up on that stalker thing

He seems to have gone quiet for now. I'm assuming the admins managed to smack down all of those alts. I haven't seen any new material on Tumblr or DeviantArt, either.

Speaking of DeviantArt, here's the reply I got from them:

    Thanks for getting in touch!

A member of the DeviantArt staff has reviewed this situation, and we have taken appropriate steps to resolve the problem.

    Just so you know...

There's a person on here who has been creating alts and harassing me. I keep getting posts like "why have you stopped talking to me? Tell me what I did. I need closure." I'm also getting PMs along the order of "yo, why are you ignoring X? I thought you were friends."

    I lurk

I know some people have asked why I won’t say anything, etc., but the truth is that I lurk. I sign in to see something, usually to re-read Rage Reviews. There are some things I can’t see unless I’m a bonafide member over a certain age. And then I just don’t ever log out, but I’m not “here” and ignoring anyone on purpose.

Some people make themselves very, very unhappy

Haven't been around much, but then, you knew that. Busyness, health issues, and frankly a whole lot of depression. Even ponies weren't interesting me very much anymore. I had a ticket to go to EQLA and a party that same weekend, and I did not go to either.

    Hey guys guys guys

So, hi, you haven't probably seen much from me, and that is primarily because I have been sucked in again by my primary fandom, Harry Potter. Which isn't surprising, considering that I help run a convention and teach a course on it and am the school's club's faculty advisor and have given talks on it for, oh, over a decade.

So for me, for the last few months, it has been mostly about:

I have crossed the line. I know it. · 6:47am Jul 9th, 2014

Have you ever had a fandom line you knew you wouldn't cross? "Yes, yes, I know, I really like Harry Potter--but I wouldn't go to a midnight show. --- OK, so I went to a midnight show, but when I'm at conventions, I only give talks dressed in my regular clothing. --- Hogwarts robes count as regular clothing, right? --- What if I'm wearing a costume, but it's just my regular clothing with a little makeup? --- I'm dressed as Gilderoy Lockhart, and you can't stop me!"

In Pony fandom, my line was buying a plush. Build A Bear plushes don't count. They're only $25, and they're meant to be cuddled, which is why my nephew and I BOTH have a Pinkie Pie. (You should have seen his eyes light up. It was SO CUTE.) I mean, "oh, ho, ho, look how much those people spend on a custom plush! I would NEVER spend that kind of money on a custom plush! That's crazy!"

So--I guess I just crossed that line.

I'll post pictures when I get them. Meanwhile, guess what else I've got!

OK, if these guys don't change your mind about Equestria Girls stuff, nothing will.

See what BFFs they are? Actually, Pinkie Pie is the main reason EG is any good. And yes, she has those weird non-feet (the new dolls do have them) but they're having such fun being all Gothy together!

And looky here!

This was the main thing I got at BABSCon--a signed original drawing from the EG Annual by Tony Fleecs. I had it framed, and I think it looks great. It's too dark to take a picture of where I'm eventually going to hang it. My bedroom is a Wedgewood Blue with a lot of pinkish pictures, so to my surprise, that's probably where she'll end up! But in order to show her off, I took a picture in the hall.

In Looking Glass World, I briefly have someone mention that Pinkie Pie's been in every club in school. This is the scene I'm talking about--tennis, the jazz band, the knitting club. It turns out she's some kind of scary savant at all of them, but she decides not to join any of them and focus on making EVERYBODY happy. And I do my research.

Hey! Did someone say "research?"

Is THAT research?

Or it might be a total coincidence and have nothing to do with Looking Glass World or a possible sequel.

And finally: I HIGHLY recommend this book.

With a name like The Tastemakers: Why We're Crazy For Cupcakes But Fed Up With Fondue, I had to check it out.

It's great. And for some of you, you may find the material surprisingly helpful. It's all about food trends, and who are the people who set them. Why are we all suddenly eating chia seeds? Who decided that bacon goes with everything now? Who are, in short, the Trenderhooves of our world?

Obviously, the chapter on cupcakes is great. Nothing about cupcakes sucks, in my opinion, but the whole history of the cupcake fad and why it's probably permanent is really cool. (Pie is giving it a run for its money in my town, but --- can't quite unseat the cake, I think.)

I was VERY surprised to find a whole chapter about apples in there, though! And if you write about the Apples, you might find it really interesting.

And finally, there's the chapter on fondue, and why we don't love it as much anymore, and man, that was an eye-opener, too. Speak for yourself, I still love fondue. Sadly, right now, it is fondue that doesn't love me. And ice cream. And coffee. And a WHOLE LOT of other things.

Now I have to get back to the Powerpoint I'm supposed to be working on, but I have some things grinding in the machine and some cover art going, and you'll be getting a Mirrorverse fic or the next chapter of Looking Glass World pretty soon. And no more on that, because I find that if I talk about stuff, I don't write it, and I'm sure you want me to write it--probably.

which is why my nephew and I BOTH have a Pinkie Pie. (You should have seen his eyes light up. It was SO CUTE.)

Out of curiosity, how old is your nephew? I only ask because my little boy is under 3 years old and, of all the ponies, he's pretty nuts about Pinkie Pie. I'm wondering if there's some Pinkie Pie factor that makes her appealing to small boys.

I was VERY surprised to find a whole chapter about apples in there, though! And if you write about the Apples, you might find it really interesting.

You may find this interesting (or not).

2268719 He's is seven. I don't know. At the time, I thought of Rainbow Dash as Best Pony, but he's kind of talked me around.

I did find that interesting! In the book, there's a section about developing an apple called the Red Prince, which ran into trouble.

I crossed a line of my own, recently. I acquired my first piece of physical pony merchandise, a Funko vinyl Derpy Hooves. (Doo dah, doo dah.) I think it's just part of being a fan. The fandom lays siege to your inhibitions, and given time, it becomes easier to cede ground than to maintain the same level of resistance.

My lines were having a Pony OTP (because, well, shipping is ridiculous--especially pony shipping--and I've rolled my eyes at the term "One True Pairing" and have made art poking fun at shippers) and writing a pony fan fiction.

And then "Pinkie Pride" came around and gave me a good reason to ship Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich. And well, I'm on this site with my own fanfic, aren't I? Frankly, I wouldn't have joined FIMfiction if I wasn't planning to write...

The EG drawing is cute. Seriously, I like the way the guy draws Pinkie.

Not all too fond of "Gothy Pie" though. :unsuresweetie: I've never been a fan of goth characters because I don't really find them fascinating and think they're overrated.

Argh, those cupcakes are making me hungry! :flutterrage:

You are truly lost. :pinkiegasp:

2269037 Yeah, well, sorry--but this lady's Cheese Sandwich plushie is just impossibly good. I guess I could just pair him up with my Build-A-Bear Pinkie, except that the chance to have a RAINBOW POWER Pinkie was impossible to resist.

2268975 I used to make fun of collectors, and now I'm going to have to find a spot to put my ponies. I already HAVE storage issues, but I'm tired of moving them every time I have to dust, especially since I try to give them show-accurate manes.

which, by the way, was totally worth it:

i157.photobucket.com/albums/t50/professorbutters/ponies/ponystylejan201374.jpg

I think the insanity there reached its peak when I made Trixie her own little hat, but face it--she looks nude without it.

2269028 Same deal. If you'd told me I'd have a Pony ship, let along a Pinkie ship, two weeks before that episode, I would have died laughing. I was always of the school that I liked it being a show about friendship, not romance. Maybe I like CheesePie because it's based on friendship and similarity? Not to mention the idea of shipping a cartoon pony with a real person. IK. And then Pinkie Pride happened. I know a LOT of people who don't or didn't ship any ponies and now ship CheesePie.

I just think the way they look is cute. :pinkiesad2: Pink and black is so pretty together, and it's not called "goth": it's the Pinkie's Boutique line. The Ponymania glam rock ponies, though--ew, giving those a wide berth.

Oh, and the vanilla frosting on those things is fantastic.

Hey after my friend gave me a Rainbow Dash figure, I search far and wide for a Pinkie one and it's now sitting next to my computer right now.

Not to mention the fact that I would never ship Pinkie with anyone since it's unlikely for her,and then "Pinkie Pride" blow their shipping streamers in my face, and I'm gaga over Cheesepie.

So yea I crossed the line too. :scootangel:

I've crossed the line too. Sometimes I can't believe how much money I spend on these ponies. But they're still worth it!:raritywink: Sadly, I've never been to a BABSCon or any type of pony con, even though I REALLY want to. You're so lucky that you got a signed picture, it's pretty awesome!:rainbowdetermined2: BTW Cupcakes are awesome:pinkiehappy:
