It's been a while, so here's what's up. [Tagged story: There Goes the Neighborhood] · 2:33am Jul 1st, 2014
If you're receiving this blog and you're not following me, that's probably because you've faved There Goes the Neighborhood, and this post contains news about that story.
My recent silence is coming to an end. As some of you may know, I've been busy as hell lately, and it's been hard to find the time to write. When I have been able to write, the stress of recent events has made my work terrible. I think I'm finally past all that.
My recent troubles aren't exactly over, but the end is in sight, and that has me in a much better mood. On top of that, I've had some awesome conversations about writing with other members of The Royal Guard, so that's helped my mindset a lot. Basically, things are looking up, and that's being reflected in my productivity.
My first priority is on completing an update of TGtN, as I consider that story to be my best one, and it's the one I most want to see finished. Right after that, however, I'm going to roll straight into completing the long-awaited final chapter of Roll for Initiative.
Yes, I'm afraid the next one is the end. That's been the plan since I was writing Chapter 4, although I was hesitant to announce it in case my plans changed. (EDIT: Maybe I should have announced that in a blog tagged for RfI. Oh well.) It's the logical stopping point, though, and the existing set of characters have played themselves out. There's just no point in keeping it going when it can only go downhill from here. Of course, it will be open to sequels, which is a great opportunity to either tinker with a different game or put in a new cast of player characters and a new quest.
I'd also like to mention that the new chapter of TGtN is coming along magnificently. I wrote nearly 3000 words today, and one of the scenes I put down may be my favorite thing I've written. If you don't mind a (minor) spoiler, it involves Angel Bunny and his friends being chased around Ponyville by a spider monkey wearing night vision goggles and riding a motorized party cannon. What can I say? I love writing the Angel segments.
I'm excited about this one. It has a little less emphasis on the humor than usual, but I'm trying to make up for that by making the scenario more outlandish and the payoffs more satisfying. After this, though, it's a madcap sprint to the big finish.
I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I'm enjoying the writing at the moment. Hopefully, my enthusiasm will show in the final product.
'Til next time, folks, and remember to stick to the shallow end of the cesspool.
I missed you. Glad to have you back!
