Hello, one and all, my fellow tiny horse enthusiasts! I'm currently writing this blog post as my latest story Berry Bitters and Apple Sours is awaiting moderation!
This story was without a doubt the most demanding thing I've written since I started doing ponywords. Not because of content, but because of the journey I took to reach an idea that I was satisfied with. Those of you who've followed me for a while and read some of my older blogposts know that I've had a story called Tiger and Butterfly's Bogus Adventure: Little Trouble in Big Manechuria in development. Well now I can safely announce that that idea is canned, because it became this!
From the start I knew I wanted to do something with Berry Punch, because I love writing drunk ponies, she's the fandom's most famous souse, and because goddamn it, I love drunken gungwu. Originally the story was going to be a ship between Berry and Fluttershy. The title was Tiger and Butterfly because Berry's nickname was going to be "The Tiger of the Jug." The plot was going to involve Fluttershy meeting her estranged grandfather in Manechuria, who just so happened to be the last of the drunken hoof masters, and Berry's adopted father. Fluttershy was going to be kidnapped by a resurrected ancient kitty sun emperor who was the ruler of the sun before the time of Celestia and Luna.
It was a pretty silly idea, and really actiony, but I somehow wasn't having any fun with it. So I tried to retool it. I set it in Ponyville, and accentuated Berry's perviness (all true kung fu masters are shameless perverts), making her be a stalker trying to win Fluttershy's heart with the help of her dowdy cousin/sidekick Cherry Berry running assist. However, removing the damsel in distress element made Fluttershy a weird match for Berry, so I came at it from a different angle and tried pairing her with Applejack, and finally with Big Macintosh, mixing together several past elements, such as her upbringing, family, and pervy attitude into the mishmash that became the final product I served up for you all.
All told, I probably have about fifty or so pages of scrapped storylines that I'm not happy with, just from trying to work out a story involving Berry Punch in a believable and fun way.
Anyway that was real long winded, as I tend to be. I need to work on my verbosity.
