    A Commission

I'm a little late with this one, but I'd just like to direct anyone interested to a little SpikeDash I had commissioned. You can find a link to that right here.

Spike grew up -- a little more than Dash ever expected, it seems.

Win some dolla - enter the SpikeDash competition!

I wouldn't normally post a blog like this before I come back to the site, but my good friend, YourNeighborhoodAlicorn, is organizing a competition over in the SpikeDash group. Given that the last few competitions have been nothing but talk, I've decided to have a monetary prize. Furthermore,

    Oneshotober

It had been my original plan to attempt Oneshotober this year. I had enough oneshot ideas to feel confident enough to write at least a few of them within the month. But after reading one of Rainbowbob's recent blogposts, I've come to realize that I don't want to do that anymore. Instead, I want to attempt something

Jared.

TgTfProductions.

When I first read he had cancer a few weeks ago or whenever it was, I decided not to comment. It appeared he had cancer, and he was reaching out to others for support. I can't say I would do that myself; many of my family members have had cancer (My grandma joked that it runs in the family), and it was something that we kept to ourselves and moved on with our lives. I can understand that this boy needs people to talk to, even if it was through a strange choice of medium. I read blog after blog from concerned readers and writers alike, and still I did not comment. I saw some people pouring their hearts out with poems and songs and stories. It was all quite inspirational. I was honestly waiting for some fundraiser or something crazy. Bronies surprise me every time with their care and generosity.

I read the announcement that Jared had died. I did not comment. I messaged a few friends, and together we silently respected his passing. His family had my condolences. Losing a family member to cancer isn't easy. I can't say, however, that I've personally known anyone so young die to the disease. What followed were messages of such love and empathy from users. I did not comment, but I silently agreed with what they said. I knew that those words were sincere. I knew they meant them.

Of course, what followed next was the truth. If you haven't heard already, Jared never died. Jared never had cancer. It was all a lie.

I did not comment.

I can understand the desperate urge for attention that some people feel. I've seen both close and distant friends fall victim to its temptations. Jared, Cameron, whoever this guy is, he's young. He doesn't understand honesty or integrity. That is something he will learn as he grows up. I'm not angry at him, merely disappointed.

And that was the entire story. And throughout it all, I did not comment. But then I saw something that made me pause, made me read it again. It made me frown. It made me feel horrible. I won't lie, it made me feel quite sick. I suppose I can't quote without giving away which comment I looked at specifically. I can tell you that the general theme was present in more than one comment:

I hope you die. You're worse than human. You deserve worse than death.

It's interesting to see that people who would wish a young boy life yesterday are now wishing death upon him, a boy who appears to have some issues. I'm disappointed in Jared, but I think I'm disappointed in the rest of the site, too.

Well, no. It's unfair off me to tar everyone with the same brush, but I'm disappointed with people, I suppose. You go above and beyond the calling to help a young boy dying of cancer, and then you totally overreact when you find out that, obviously, it was all fake.

True, it DID made me mad (I called him a son of a flip flop .-.) But still we can't just go there and spam and hate him to death, that's simply not right...

wait. what?! it was fake?!

You share my general philosophy on the internet.

Ah, hypocrisy, of which fimfic is made up of about 80% of.

I didn't even know what was going on till this morning. I'm literally like Lenny from the Simpsons when Ned loses his cool after his house is destroyed. (In terms of what Lenny says)

It irked me somewhat. I suppose I kind of had that nagging feeling that something didn't line up, so perhaps that has softened the blow?

2191636

Yes, it was all fake.

2191639

Pretty much. I've never been a fan of fimfiction drama, and I rarely participate in it. I have found some of it entertaining though. Good old FelixDawn. :raritywink: I may had stoked the flames a little bit with that one...

Eh, that means there's a good 20% who aren't. That's actually a higher percentage than what I previously thought. :trollestia:

Oh Arnie.

This is the first I've heard of this incident, but not the first I've heard of this, if you catch my drift. Either this. People make spectacles of themselves on the internet, and people horribly overreact on the internet. It's like the two things the internet is known for. Kudos for not adding fuel to the fire, at least.
