Why didn't Truth just put on a disguise for her whole John McClane bit?

Changelings can make themselves appear as any pony they wish, but the must have direct contact with the pony to make the disguise, and the pony must be alive for the disguise to hold up.

Why?

Hopefully this clears things up. It might also explain why Chrysalis didn't just kill Cadance in the show.
