Fanfic readings · 1:54am May 12th, 2014

My latest story, Professor Bill Neigh's Theorem of Hammerspace, was read by the fanfic streaming group, "The Living Library Player Society!" You can give it a listen here (right-click save-as).

I was really surprised this happened, and so quickly too. I was actually planning on doing my own fanfic reading of the story. I probably still will, but I have to give them a shoutout for taking the time to read and upload it. Thanks to everyone involved!

Speaking of fanfic readings, I'm pretty sure most of the people who have access to this blog got here through the fanfic readings I've done already. But just in case, I thought I'd mention it here. So far I have done three audio plays. These are fanfic readings where I am the only reader and I try to spruce the story up with sound effects and music. The first reading took the longest because I had to learn how to edit audio.

1. The Library of Discord by me.
2. Anxiety by Bad_Seed_72
3. Void by Jorofrarie

So far I've been doing these readings about once per month. I'm mostly doing this because I am fueled by comments. Every comment I get is another word of encouragement to keep making stuff. So thanks everyone!

I want to keep doing readings, but I also want to write out my own stories, and explore other ideas I have. There's just a lot of time management involved and the difficulty of selecting the right order of priority for how I should be spending my time.

Also, the translation for Chapter 1 of the Library of Discord in Esperanto is up. Thanks amphicoelias!

My latest comment was suppose to be on this blogpost, but I accidentally clicked on your name in the feed instead of the title for the blogpost.

I listened to the reading of the story “Professor Bill Neigh’s Theorem of Hammerspace”. I slept on how to phrase this. The narrator needs to rehearse:

I understand time-pressure, so I get that the narrator did not get a chance to practice, but reading the story for the first time as one records it leads to the reading being flat and stumbly. The character of Professor Bill Neigh makes only 1 error 2/3rds through the story and the other parts are fine. This is my recommendation:

0. Have the narrator read the story silently once, then read it outloud once, and finally, read it for the final recording.
1. Remix in the characterparts with the new narration for making a new dramatic reading.

I do not mean to seem down on the reading. I understand the lack of time. I get time-pressure —— ¡I certainly have been up against a deadline enough times myself!
