Sorry for the lack of activity the past week. Between difficulties sorting things out in real life, which are still unsorted mind, and a rather bad writer's block (staring at 4k words and wondering 'what the fucking fuck' for five days straight is not a fun experience), I haven't got much to show for the time spent. Part of it is anxiety over where the story is going, which is illogical, since the only real direction I need is 'suffering for Handy'. The rest is trying to juggle the sheer amount of moving parts involved in the current arc without pulling a muscle.

Also if anyone's got any tips on dealing with Insomnia without having to resort to copious medication, that'd be great.

Masturbation. And I am not joking. 3-4 times in a row. Otherwise try to change up your sleep schedule (don't sleep for the night, then take 2-3h nap next day, and sleep in/ go to sleep early day after that). Or at least that's what I do when I need to change my sleep schedule.
Depends on the reason for Insomnia. Its symptom of many tings.
Whats your stress level, stimulant (coffee, tabaco, sugar), and food intake? How much hours you work and in what circumstances? How many hours you spend staring at PC/phone screens? Oxygen intake/physical activities? Temperature/moisture?
If any of those are excessive or drastically changed, it might cause you to loose sleep.

You have a problem with insomnia? I just use it for homework...

2038299 My university days are behind me, thank you, I agree its useful when you need to get something done but I care not to relieve the days when I was having auditory and visual hallucinations because of numerous all nighters.

2038253 That's... certainly a suggestion. But no, I don't recall too drastic a change to my recent circumstances, alot of stress but thats about it.

A lot of what mapu said is correct. Though a few things can help overall like no caffeine based drinks after 2-3 in the afternoon, especially things like redbull. Watching your salt intake by not eating much fried foods chips/fries themselves. Sodium can lead to your body getting more tense leading to restlessness and other things. Lastly and especially if you cut down on the caff, take two asprin/Tylenol (dosage based on normal not extra strength) a hour before you want to sleep, which should relax your body somewhat allowing you to get to sleep faster. The last method should NOT be done on a regular basis mind you, and a non caffeinated tea could help things along.

Another BIG thing is to not play a active computer or video game anywhere for a hour or two before your trying to go to sleep. Watch a movie or read a book. Games even ones you love will generally get your mind too active especially if you start to loose, or if your getting into them a lot. Trying to get to sleep especially with just daily stress is about picking and choosing what things are going to affect you and not feeding the beast that is your phyche before you can turn off the main processer for the day. Doing something you enjoy that's not stressfull or overly thought consuming before going to bed allows you to relax.
