I don't write, so much as I perform acts of high-wire fiction without a net. Come watch me fall! I believe in narrative coincidence, the transcendent power of hopeful creativity, and the Oxford Comma.

Hole In The Sun Status, and Convention Updates! · 10:54am Mar 20th, 2014

Status update: I just finished writing Chapter 5 of The Hole in the Sun and sent it to my prereaders/editors. It clocks in at over 16,000 words, but closes out the flashback entered into with Chapter 4. It may be split into two separate chapters due to length, but they'll each be published as soon as editing is finished if that happens. So probably only a couple days apart if my editors focus on the first part to begin with. I'm hoping at least the first part can go up by the end of the weekend, but due to the length, it may take a bit longer to edit and preread than shorter chapters have. Yes, I abuse the heck out of my prereaders!

*Kirk yell* CONS!
I just bought plane tickets and booked hotels for both BABScon, in San Francisco April 18-20th, and Everfree Northwest, July 4th-6th in Seattle. First question is, anyone going to either of these cons? I'd love to meet up with anyone I can. This is especially true for BABScon, since I don't know anyone there (yet.) Let me know!

Of course I want to meet everyone I can at Everfree as well, but I'll be slightly more busy there. As mentioned before, I'm on the writing staff for EFNW this year, and I'll be running some story critique workshops and probably other stuff as well. Everfree has probably the most writing-focused content of any pony convention, and I'm not just saying that because I'm on staff. It looks like we'll have at least one writing event running at any given time during the entire con. More than anyone can actually attend. And since there's other cool things to do that's okay. The point is, if you want some fanfic and literary focus in your con schedule, there should be something to catch your interest at Everfree.

There's the Iron Author contest, where you write a prompted story in two hours. I'll be running a peer review/critique workshop, where you bring a copy of your short story, and you'll be split into groups of four. Read each others' stories and critique them, and the next day, meet back up to discuss things. We may also have some shorter, five-minute round-table sessions for critique. There's also a ton of panels with various authors from the fandom, discussing everything from writing basics, to special topics like writing the best villians, how to handle humor, getting your fanfic seen ("Making the Big Time") and all sorts of topics like that. Each evening we'll also have a writer's hangout room, where authors and readers can just relax and talk about whatever they'd like. It's a great way to socialize and make new friends, as well as ask those burning questions, like "Who would win in a fight, Flufflepuff, or Gizmo the Mogwai?" (Dang it, now I think I have to actually write that!)

So yeah, consider that another plug for Everfree. :-)

But seriously, if you're going to either con and want to meet up, let me know! BABScon looks like it's gonna be seriously fun too!

If you've got a spare three thousand dollars I might be able to attend BABScon...

Aw man. I am super envious. There is no possible way I could drive the two hours to attend Babscon, and Everfree banned me for life (and then dungeoned me in the place that they banned me to) after that "Princess and the Pauper" switcheroo last year with Ashleigh Ball.

We're never going to meet, ever.

after that "Princess and the Pauper" switcheroo last year with Ashleigh Ball.

THAT sounds like a story for the ages... :trixieshiftright:

since I live all the way on the east coast like 20 min from BronyCon, mind sharing? :pinkiehappy:

I'll be at BABSCon on the 19th.

Sure! It all started when ██████████████ "████████████ cargo pants ████████████?" ██████ asked. ██████████████████████. Ashleigh ██████████████, ████████████████ and we ██████████████████████████████ with ████████████ and the █████████, █████████████████████████████████ six llamas ████████████ to ██████. ██████████████████, ████████████ transcendental ████████████! ██████████████████, fnord, ██████, ████ █████████, and █████ ███'s moustache ██████████████████. And that's when Ashleigh gave me the magical tiara which █████████ me into ███ just in time for the ██████████████████.

Unfortunately, convention security was not amused.

(Just to double-check, you do have the security clearance for this information, right? If not, the Equestrian Civil Service Bureau may need to redact it en route to your computer.)

I have my tickets for BABScon.

:ajbemused: Well congrats on the ban, at least.

:trollestia: Sorry, just funnin' with ya. I figured that most folks who were reading here would know that I'm working alongside Xepher as one of EFNW's writing track staffers. My whole original post was tongue in cheek.

(As I'd hoped the image implied.)

1942877
Iiiiiiii didn't know that, cuz this was the first bit of EFNW news I've read :twilightsheepish: Kinda on the other end of the continent and such

We work so hard!:fluttercry:. I haven't talked to anyone in months! Please help!:raritycry:
;):pinkiehappy:.

1941220 Sorry, don't have that kinda change laying around. I live in Oregon, and both cons are only like 90 minute flights away, so it's relatively cheap for me to go.

1941614 Heh! NEVER! NEVER! But yeah, I'll make sure to track ya down there.

1941719 Cool! Drop me a PM (or I'll do the same) like the night before the con or something if you want to try to meet up somewhere.

1942312 *Nods* Your post on it is what reminded me that there was another decently sized out west here. I'll pm or email or something around con time. Let me know if you end up on any panels needing extras to yak about writing or anything too!

1943073 Yeah, I feel your pain. I can't justify the costs for Bronycon as it's on the wrong end of the states for me too, even though Dusk Watch keeps trying to talk me into it. The flight alone would cost more than my entire trip to either BABScon or EFNW.

1943106 Who let you out of the pit? :derpytongue2:

1943308 Talk to Super Trampoline about panels.

1943308
yeeeah, we keep trying to fill this room...nothin doin :rainbowlaugh:
