Asking for your advice. · 9:39am Mar 4th, 2014

I've been thinking of writing a political blog in order to throw out my strong and unique opinions on politics.
I have two goals, convincing people to take action and make the world better, and... possibly making money.
Basically, I'd consider going for being a politician, actually, but there are too many skeletons in my closet for that to work. I want a way to make my voice heard and influence things for the better, and I want to be rewarded for it properly in the unlikely event that it turns out successful.
I think a passionate delivery of independent ideals could find readership, and more importantly, could bring about positive change.

Now, I've google searched it, and after long hours of scouring the bitter dregs of the internet, I haven't really come up with anything. 'So', I thought to myself, 'why not ask a group of people you respect about where to go?'

So, I came here! ^.^
I want to find a place where:
A) There's a community of writers and readers present; articles I post will gain at least a little notice based on quality alone.
B) I can create a persona, a page where I can be read and followed, and a base of followers.
C) I won't be restricted from posting anything about politics or religion.
D) There is a possibility of making money if the blog becomes popular.

Do any of you possibly know of such an eden hidden within the blogosphere?
I don't want to make an independent website -- even though I easily could -- because it would just be too hard to get noticed that way, and I don't think my content alone would justify a standalone website.
The services I've found out there so far, though, don't seem to put any emphasis on an author's identity and overall message.

I think you should muffins :derpytongue2:

Try Tumblr or Facebook?

It really depends on what you're doing. If you're really planning on making money off of it, your best bet honestly is YouTube videos. Doing your own website and advertising on it could work too.

I'm not really aware of any blogging sites which are really good for such things, though you could always look at the Huffington Post and similar sites - I hear they have bloggers who work for them, so maybe you could get in on that.

Academia is another possibility.

I would seriously consider the first thing on this guys list. If I would want to make myself know in the political spectrum, wherever I may be, I would make a website or more specifically have one made for me because I suck at that kind of stuff then I would make sure that the site can handle Youtube Embeds fine.

At that point I would do a joint campaign of written and recorded articles that expressed my opinions, without monetizing the videos at first that is important though add's and banners on your site would be fine, and try to get my stuff out to the masses in a meaningful way. I should say that the way I am describing is certainly not a "get rich quick" sort of deal but I feel that it is a way to find concrete success with a concerted effort.

Now at this point, you need a following to continue, and I'm relatively sure I know the fastest way to get one by observation. First you need to find other people to help you, find people who do what you are going to do and offer to collaborate with them on projects for a good word. The point of this is, hopefully, to transfer some of their subscriber/follower base to you through positive exposure. Failing this you want to get your work featured, by merit, on other sites that will put in a good word for you and do the same thing.

Once you get a following, go full monitization and go to a place called http://www.patreon.com/, it's basicly a place where pepole pledge to pay you based on content you produce. Plug it at the end of every other article or so you record and write and hopefully, if they like you, people will pledge to you. At the end of the day your business model will be adverts on Youtube videos, your adverts on your site, Patreon subscribers, and if your so inclined donations (not hard to put a donation link at the top of a site).

The biggest thing to remember if you do this method is that this is not for the money. If you are lucky you will eventually get enough money to support yourself, but only if you put in the effort and time to earn it, and you probably won't make much more. That being said it would be kind of a "labor of love" sort of deal for a while.

Reading this back to myself, this is really complicated, if you are interested in anything I said here please feel free to ask questions.

Yeah... I'll probably have to break down and make a social media presence... something I've been avoiding for years now. :ajsleepy:

Ugh... youtube videos... I'll have to learn to speak well, too.
...Which I guess would be a useful skill.

*scribbles down notes*
Yeah... I was afraid an independent website might have to be the way to go. :applejackunsure:
It just seems like a really high barrier between people and going to a whole new website, rather than a place they're familiar with.

Well, I think I'll get to planning that. At least I already have my own hosting; all I'll need is a domain name.

Oh, no, the blogging I'm talking about here would have very little to do with ponies. I'm just asking here because this is one of the best places I still have to ask about things. :ajsleepy: Which is kind of sad... but still.
