Well, I definitely should have seen this coming. From the Mouths of Fillies, in spite of the controversy [and admittedly entertaining drama], has become a surprising success. I'm slightly upset that it now has more views than one of my primary serials, but at the same time there are a whole number of reasons that story hasn't been garnering any attention that I simply won't go into right now. That's not what this is about though.
No. Indeed.
What this is about is the word Sequel. I've seen a number of people asking for a sequel, or admonishing me for making the story a 'one-shot', which I guess it isn't any more. Needless to say, the response has been overwhelmingly positive in spite of the criticisms, and I simply can't not expand on this.
Some of the things I intend on addressing are Spike/Spines' newfound hate for Celestia, interaction with the Cutie Mark Crusaders, how 'her' relations with the Mane 6 have or haven't changed, and the public response to the 'Spike' SNAFU as it comes to light [maybe second-class citizenry playing into it]. Hell. Might be that I even intend a little chapter with Discord and magical sex changes.
Just one thing. I'm not barreling in, balls-deep to the concept that Spike HAS to be called Spines. As a trans friend of mine pointed out, changing the name is going against who they've always been, even if it WAS a lie. Many of the ponies of Ponyville aren't going to know about what has transpired right away, so the name Spike is still going to be floating about a lot. The name Spines will mostly be confined to her inner circle, the ponies who know what has transpired. Further, despite the obvious dislike for Celestia on Spike/Spines' part, and the confusion regarding who she is now, she isn't simply going to drop tail and say "I'm a pretty princess," taking on a complete female persona. Rather the story is going to be her finding a balance between who she was and what she is.
Spike... Spines... It doesn't matter what you call me; I am who I am.
This quote from the upcoming sequel, from which beyond this line of dialogue I've written absolutely nothing, is going to be a very important theme.
Thing is that this is a brave new world we're stepping into, folks. That's why I'd like to ask you all what you would like to see in the sequel. I can't please everybody, but if there is a particular thing you'd like to see, you might just see it if you bring it up here. Just remember. PG-13.

Oh, yes please! Especially the first one. I didn't jump in to the shark-infested comments, but I really wanted to swat Tia on the muzzle with a rolled-up newspaper. Seriously, correcting Twi on her dragon's sex would have (literally) brought about the end of the world?
Poor Spike. Why people like to violate their favourite characters like that?
In a sequel, I'd love to see the topic of Spike's/Spines' crush on Rarity, and how it technically is a lesbian crush.
Totally agree with Zontargs and Kamineigh, though, I think it would also be cool to see Celestia attempt to atone for what shes done.
personally I think you story is a great idea and was fresh to see something like this. Transgender is something that I can see with Spike since how he was hatched is a plot hole that we have yet to fully see, plus this gives others a different point of view.
