Stories, how the hell I came up with them, and how they lived. · 3:36am Aug 1st, 2013
I think now is a good time as any to think back. I joined the fandom roughly a year ago, as did many others. I've been a saint, a dick, and everything in between, so here goes.
My stories in chronological order.
Short answer - It's complete shit. Don't read it.
Long answer - I was a new guy back then, both to the fandom and to writing in general. But it allowed me to take the first steps into the harsh reality that is FIMFiction's approval system. But by then I've read some of the absolutely horrible HiE that were clogging up the place, so I decided to change it up a little by placing the human in Equestria because officially, he was doing his job. Unofficially, he was fucking marooned. It was an interesting idea, so I worked on it. It died within the week.
The mentioned war was supposed to stay in the background, but was going to play a role later in the story.
*Sigh* This is probably the only story that I sincerely regret cancelling. But I'll get on that later. From the General was originally a regular Military In Equestria fic. Now is a good time to tell you something about me. I am a total sucker for realism. From the weight of a 120mm HEAT shell to the capacity of the fuel tank(s), if there is something real in one of my stories, I will try my darnest to fit it in. And that's where the trouble came in. You do not know the amount of effort and hours upon hours of R&D that went into making your life the way it is. I concluded that there is no way the factories of Equestria could match the quality of the products produced by our modern precision machines, nor could they match the output in quantity. And that's just with ammunition and fuel. How the hell are they supposed to produce spare parts? Completely new machines? And that's when I said-
"Fuck this. Imma go play some Generals."
(I'm eco-friendly.)
...Why the hell not? Pinkie breaks the laws of physics. Why can't I? What if the world of MLP existed in the Matrix? Where anything is possible? I take the C&C Generals game that ACTUALLY exists, and copy-paste it into the MLP program? Fuck yeah! Let's do it!
And by god did I have fun. The story was fun to write, I found a C&C group (It's too small. We need some more.) and I had plenty of time to write.
*Sigh* And then school rolled in. But that was actually a good thing. By writing fanfics, I've gotten much better at writing than before. And by reading fanfics, I've learned what not to do.
But eventually. Things changed. I changed. Consider that FtG was posted just a week after the above mentioned piece of crappé, I think the only reason I got any amount of attention at the time was the fact that it was a rare C&C crossover. Sure it got better, but I personally consider the first few chapters to be weak and lacking. I don't have to drive to go back and re-do it. So with a regretful sigh, I cancelled it with little hopes of returning.
But I think it's time to move on.
The Long Road Home (Formerly Home Again.)
I consider this story my most interesting. The main characters are a group of ponies and a human. All OCs, in fact, there wouldn't be any familiar faces until much later in the story.
The basic premises is that a war happened, and there are now two human empires with many smaller villages of ponies and humans living in between them. After discovering a secret government project, a unicorn (Crystal.) finds herself in Equestria. A few years later, a human gets involved with a few pony slaves who want to return home, and follows. That's the first act. The second act is the humans reclaiming their cities that they lost during the war, and Crystal realizing that the only way they'll survive is to escape to Equestria. She and the human search for any remaining pre-war secret government tech and reverse engineer it so that it will create a stable portal. They gather up all of the remaining ponies around the world in a mass exodus and create a giant portal with the abandoned Duga-3 array (Google it. It's pretty much a giant radar antenna.) There's a little struggle, and the portal opens up in the desert, but is detected by the princesses. There's political bullshit, first-contact uneasiness, but they finally get along after a few years.
Right now you should know that I've put more work into this story than any other. It might've passed 500,000 words, it might not have, but it certainly would've been long. This story was inspired by the following stories.
Antipodes, PK
The Great Brony Migration, Laichonious (Pretty much the first chapter of this story is the last act of mine.)
Project:Sunflower, Hoopy McGee
And though it's not a fic, C&C Tiberian Sun.
God damn! This story had everything! A full list of human and pony characters, every last macguffin, a glorious ending, Soviet warsongs, rail riding, guns and ammo, plenty of tanks... There's a serious chance I will return to this one day. Seriously.
So for the first time in ten years, I rewatched Treasure Planet. I loved the hell out of the movie when I was a kid, but unfortunately we lost the VHS (Hey kids, do you know what a VHS is?) tape during a move. It was on DVD. It was ten bucks at Wal-Mart. I had money. Why not? And by god it was glorious.
If you've known me for longer than a week, you'll know that I get the weirdest ideas. In the movie there are something called Solar Sails. They take light (Possibly not just visible light, but all forms of radiation.) and turn it into propulsion. Now, it's general headcanon that pegasi require magic to fly. But what if instead of magic, a pegasus with prosthetic wings required light to fly?
And that's how Radiance was born.
Overall, I like this story, but it's not something I'm going to return to. Not much else to say about it.
Due to the format, I will be splitting this into three parts.
1 - Twelve Hours to Nothing
Have you ever looked back and realized that while you have produced many good things, there's one that stands out no matter what you do? This is mine. I love the hell out of the premise. I love the hell out of the world-building. This is my jewel. I consider this to be the best out of all of my stories.
2 - Rifle, Caliber 5.56, M16
Again with the movies. I've had Lord of War on my head for quite a while, and finally got around to watching it. I took Trixie and Gilda, humanized them, and let them make money by smuggling weapons. It was a fun project.
3 - The Sky Titan
The only reason I wrote this story was to practice on descriptions. I have a little problem with having barebone descriptions, so this story came up. It's interesting, but nothing to return to.
Overall, Adventure somewhat succeeded in its mission, but even then the chapters took too long. But we see a return in this format with Clankers.
Another short. This has its origins after the Canterlot Wedding episodes. As countless other fanfics have established, distrust does not dissipate with defeat. Mayberry walks home from work, and sees the effect that the Changelings had, even after their defeat. Second favorite story.
This one... I don't know what to think of this one... Originally an idea from Cheesey who posted a textwall on my page, I chose this format so I could update more frequently, though we all know how well that turned out.
That's my fault though. I've had to deal with a lot of bullshit recently, and with college just a week away, everything has been crazy lately. But I'm making excuses. I probably should get the story moving though.
Here's a fun fact, the name "Clankers" comes from, of all places, Star Wars. It's slang for battle droids, and it's being applied because of the machines that will emerge later in the story.
And now onto my latest story...
Oh yeah. You can't go wrong with tanks. Unless you actually try. This is one of of those "Why the hell not?" stories. The funniest thing is that I actually don't have the Tiger (H) in WoT. Just the Tiger (P). And I love that thing. The this is, each of the tanks have personality, making them easy to transfer into ponies. Just how to do that is the trick. And I will be having fun.
So to everyone who has favorited on or more of my stories, who have followed me, who have given me priceless advice...
Thank you.
You magnificent bastards.
