So, over the weekend I saw EQG in a theater in Nashville. Gotta say, it definitely exceeded my expectations quite well, but that's not the point of this blog post. Somehow, that movie got my noodle going, and on the long flight back to Idaho, I started brainstorming a bunch of new ideas for the upcoming Advent of Applejack, even got a draft going for a chapter or two. So, as promised, I'll be laying some of those details out for you people, but please keep in mind that some of it is still subject to change, as bits and pieces are still too disjointed for my liking (I'm having a crisis of too many Pinkie Pies, plot elements edition).
First and foremost, there is no exact release date set yet, but you can probably expect to see it by the end of this month/ sometime early in August.
Now, for the particulars, starting with the big one.
As some of you probably predicted, the tags are going to be slightly different: [Dark] [Adventure] [A/U] [Romance].
Now, before you guys get carried away with speculations, know that I'm doing my best not to throw the romance tag in arbitrarily. As much as a lot of you have been calling for Appledash, the reason why that tag is there is because it will be relevant to the plot, and perhaps not only in the way you'll be anticipating.
And as I mentioned before, these tags may be subject to change, even over the course of me writing the fic (like what happened with IoA). However, I felt like letting you guys know the general goal at this time.
The cast will be largely the same as well, as far as tagged characters go. Depending on how far I intend to take this, there may be one or two mix-ups along the way, but most of the new additions will be OCs, including a fair bit of changelings and even some ponies. I'm having fun coming up with some of their personalities, so that's going smoothly at least.
The timeframe for the fic will be shortly after the season 3 finale (by a month or two). So expect to see some twilicorn and Crystal Empire.
And finally, I will be using a placeholder for the cover image until I can either find one more fitting or have someone make me one. Surprisingly, it's hard to find a changeling Applejack image. Weird, huh?
I thought about holding a contest - winner gets their work put up as the cover image - but eh... I suck at organizing those things, and I'm too indecisive to pull it off anyway. Besides, being forced to pick one picture out of a pool of others would make me feel like i was discrediting the rest.
Ah well... I'll think of something. I'll entertain the thought for a while longer. I've got some time before classes start up again in the fall, so until then... back to the drawing board.

Looking forward to the sequel. The AppleDash sexual tension was often thick enough to cut with a knife in IoA, but who's to say that the ship has to continue to sail in that direction?

I know what you mean about the whole art thing. It is tough to pick one and not feel like you are telling the other that they are just not good enough.
I'm still hoping for plot-relevant Appledash - the great character development and interaction in IoA leads into it so perfectly. Not that I'm not open to whatever else you may do, of course. I'm really glad you're doing a sequel - I'm sure it'll be just as riveting and epic-tastic as the last one.
Shining Armor turns into a girl and has sex with Applejack, impregnating her with lawyer pupa. She shapeshifts into a bowl of potato salad to prevent the birth, but alas, Pinkie is unaware of this and eats her dear friend.

For some reason, all I got out of that was an image of a belly full of Phoenix Wrights.
There'll be a timeskip of an entire season? Will there be mention of any events playing out differently because of Applejack's status? The most obvious candidate would be Apple Family Reunion, but One Bad Apple and Spike at Your Service might have played out a bit differently, as would The Crystal Empire and Magical Mystery Cure, though to a limited extent. And I'm sure Discord would have a bit of fun at AJ's expense in Keep Calm and Flutter On. Most of these aren't obligatory to mention, but it seems to me the reunion would be a significant event in AJ's life, considering the high volume of relatives who need to be convinced to accept a Changling in the family.
Anyway, the sequel is well awaited.
(If that phrasing didn't make sense, blame my clock. It says it's midnight, even though it knows my brain begins to shut down at ten.)

Why do you think Applejack was so utterly bound and determined to make the Apple Family Reunion the biggest, most successful one yet?
But yes, there will be some mention of them, though mostly just to point out the current time frame (as if Twilight puttering around with wings wouldn't clear that up pretty quick...)
Working in Applejack's thoughts on those events, however, might be a bit tricky without interrupting the flow of the story. But I have given it some thought, and I think I even have a plausible explanation for the MMC episode. So... we'll see.

Plot relevant Appledash, please. It was teased all of the last book and it just seems like the next logical step for them. Seriously. Not just saying that because my heart broke when it didn't happen in the first book.
So you did come to Nashville? Sorry I didn't get to see you but I resigned from that failed Con when they lost yet another venue. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie and I hope you enjoyed the large meetup thing they did instead. I just hate you flew all the way out to Nashville when there is BronyCon right around the corner and SAAC didn't happen. I'm so sorry.

No worries! The point of me going to Nashville in the first place was to meet a friend of mine, and by the time I found out about the con, I was literally packed and headed out the door. It was still an absolute blast (the vendors that showed up actually left in the black, if that says anything), and if that's what a "mini-con" was like, I can't imagine what an actual convention is like.
I was kind of disappointed I didn't get to meet you, but what're ya gonna to do?
Anyway, yes... By the end of the sequel, someone's getting shipped with someone, mark my words
