    Looking For Editing Help

    Sorry for the bother,

I was looking for some editing help on my stories, including the next chapter of Asylum, and I was also looking for some feedback on the stories in general to help me nail down some pernicious issues I've been facing.

Please PM me if you're willing and able to help. And let me offer my thanks ahead of time, because I do appreciate it all!

    Sincerely,
    Derek (aka DoD)

I have a gift for you - the lost Asylumverse planning guide (from 2013!)

So, years ago I actually started writing out a guide of random but mostly useless information about Asylum and Broadhoof after I received permission from folks to write fan-fiction based on my fan-fiction. It was a humbling but invigorating experience. So in my exuberance, I decided that I should craft something that would help provide the reader a more coherent world for their shared narrative.

    Oops!

Okay, I let the Discord Server invite expire. It should be working now at this link. It shouldn't expire this time.

    Sorry!

    -Derek (aka DoD)

PS: Just over 1000 words into the next Asylum chapter. Had to kinda restart it again to make any progress.

Stories inspired by Asylum - Broadhoof Files: Dr. Humors by TypewriterError · 9:05pm Feb 27th, 2013

On my end, the next chapter is almost finished. About a thousand words or so to go, and then it's on to editing! I plan on having it finished by this weekend. So, to hold you over, here are two stories that were inspired by or related to my own story Asylum. You should certainly check them out if you have the chance! They're good reads, especially if you need your daily fix of crazy pony! I worked with both the authors (and did the pictures!), so I'd love to see them get some recognition for their hard work. They really deserve it!

Broadhoof Memorial Psychiatric Hospital: the goal of many prestigious psychiatric doctors all over Equestria. Where countless ponies are treated and cured daily of debilitating disease.

If only it was that easy...

Twilight was on the road to recovery from her mental illness. She had started a new treatment, bonded with the staff, and had many friends in her ward. Now she wakes up in the center of the delusions she has been trying so hard to escape: Ponyville.

both look interesting.
were these both independently made by the authors or did they ask for your input?

Hey cool, it's Sanctuary. I just got done working on that last night with Kaidan and it looks like he's already posted chapter 3. I'll have to look into the other one. I've caught wind of that author more than once so maybe they've got some ability.

I promised I would put this up eventually! :twilightblush:

871124

I think so! Both of them are full of good ideas, talent, and a strong desire to put stuff out. I enjoyed helpin' them as best I could.

871106

I helped, although they were their ideas. Kaidan's idea of Sanctuary was something I think I had mentioned once or twice in the comments section of Asylum, about the idea of someone doing the inverse of that story (crazy Twilight wakes up in normal Ponyville). I helped him along when he was writing it by giving him my jerk-ass opinions and offering suggestions about certain aspects of the story, but it was his creation and his work.

For TypewriterError's story, it was entirely original, but I think stemmed from my decision to get others to submit to me their OCs for possible inclusion within the story, with her's being one of them. The problem I had was that there were so many good ideas that I'd never be able to do them all justice, and it felt a shame to let them stagnate there. So I very much supported anyone who wanted to do a story about their OC being at Broadhoof and offered my assistance in that endeavor. There are so many good OCs that have been suggested that I hope others out there will decide to write their own stories utilizing some of them. If I end up encouraging a few people to write something they otherwise wouldn't have, I'd be a very happy camper indeed!

In fact, I still do strongly support that idea, and still do offer my assistance to anyone willing to take a crack at their own Broadhoof/Asylum story. I've even written out a short little document (with suggestions from others) filled with some standard bits of data like a sample daily schedule, patient classifications, and the like, to provide some consistency for those who want to write within what someone called the "Asylumverse". Which, I might add, is a word that made me grin like a small child getting ice cream, let me tell you.

Ah, Daemon- how are you doing? I immediately favorited both stories, going to read them soon to support those two authors :)

871255

Doing well! No class today, so I'm going to try and get some more writing done. I need some more length to the chapter to finish it (around 1k words) but I'm conflicted about whether it should go on the end or be saved for the next chapter. Decisions, decisions.

871244 Yep! Thanks again for your help and the cover art.

871302 If its cliffhanger, update it now if its not then work on it til there is a one or conclusion for that chapter as well :)

871106 Daemon made an off-hand remark about a crazy Twilight in normal Ponyville. I believe it was something like:

:moustache: Good morning Twilight
:twilightoops: Luna's Nipples! It's a dragon!

I said "hey I'll write that" and he helped me learn to write. He was awesome with the feedback, then I met Breath of Plagues, ArgonMatrix, Gage, and The11thWonder so lots of editor friends now. By the time I wrote Chapter three I had finally learned to write properly, so I'm working on Chapter four and fixing chapter one with what I've learned so far.

It's been a blast to write. I even ended up making an Asylum fan-trailer (awesome) and drawings (they're awful.) I'm tossing the idea around now of making something in FL10 for Asylum. Unfortunately, that would require me to learn how to use FL10 since the ability to play multiple instruments is useless without knowing which buttons to click. It'd be so much easier if I had an electric keyboard =/.

871244 That reminds me, I still need to donate some medical knowledge to the ultra-top-secret-write-your-own-Asylumverse-story guide. And thanks for the blog post, I'm 73% certain that 81% of my views are due to your support. :pinkiehappy:

871244
So the Asylum-verse is "open source"? Well then :pinkiecrazy: what an interesting development.

I've put those two on my "Read Later" list...I'll start my day tomorrow with a fix of crazy pony :pinkiecrazy:

871452

My pleasure!

871518

Cliffhanger to cliffhanger, eh? :raritywink:

871549

My pleasure! I've enjoyed your story, and I think more people need to enjoy it as well!

871592

Hey, I'd love to let people take the basic set-up to the world I've been working with and run with it in their own way. Plus, people I've talked with and discussed things with have shaped my story and my ideas about Broadhoof and Asylum as a whole.

873125

Excellent! A full day of crazy pony!
