    Fragments From The Archives

Hey folks! It’s been a while. I hope everyone’s doing well over here.

I was going through some old files, and I found a bunch of unfinished stories I was working on, way back when. I’ve posted three of them in my scrapfile for whoever's interested.

    I Am Technically Not Dead

So, new story. My first since 2013, actually. It might be my last.

New Holiday Story: Where The Heart Is

I've posted a new story about going home for the holidays. You won't see it in your feed, because the mods in their infinite wisdom have decreed that sufficiently short stories aren't actually stories, so this blog is to let you know that it's available in my

Thanks to Chris, I've been thinking about writing style recently. What is a style? Do I have one? Do I have more than one? How can I tell? “Thinking really hard about these questions” doesn't seem like a good way to get answers, since my most common problem as a writer is that I don't communicate the ideas I mean to communicate.

This Is Becoming Silly · 7:42pm Feb 18th, 2013

In my current project, I've had to remove a number of finished, edited scenes. Some of them had gone through three or four major drafts. If I combined and published the deleted scenes, they would be my second-longest story.

(It's totally worth it, though. I don't think I've ever been this confident in a story, before.)

That's wonderful to hear. Sometimes drowning half your story in the bath is the best way for the rest of it to thrive.

Make a "scrapfile dump" story.
Some of your readers would appreciate it.

Not a bad idea at all. I've certainly got enough scraps. The detritus from this story will have to wait until the actual finished version is posted, though. Spoilers and all that.

Oh no. Is it being further ripped apart from the latest-version-I've-read? (Or are you just talking about the editing to date?)

I'm losing about half of the first scene and all of the second. "Twilight is an alicorn" isn't exactly a dramatic reveal anymore. Also I think I'm swapping titles on the Laughter and Kindness chapters, which means I can probably put the tea scene back in.
