It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    Oh shit, words

Or maybe that comma is in the wrong place. I haven't decided yet.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

I was going to have an early night. · 11:44pm Feb 5th, 2013

I have been staying up too late for too many nights and it's starting to show. Hmf. So naturally the day I decide to get an early night, I'm suddenly bitten by the bug to re-draw the cover art for Xenophile's Guide... the old one was starting to annoy me. The poses were too stiff, especially Lyra and there were so many mistakes in the heads and faces, regardless of the style I'd used that I just couldn't bear to look at it any more. I know that some of my lovely readers prefer the look of that one, but I really don't like it any more.

I've kept things as similar as possible (Twilight looks almost identical, though her eyes are smaller, and Lero is basically traced from the previous version) but it's much better, IMO. They all have more unique faces instead of the generic thing they had before (in line with the style sheet I've been working on) and way better expressions. And Lyra's just cute now. :pinkiehappy:

That said, it's not perfect.

It never is.

that beardgrin terrifies me :pinkiesad2:

798714 Evidently he's a klingon. Or the old Batman symbol with the freaky mouth in it.

798714 It's like he's staring into my soul.

Alt title: Jesus Married Some Ponies

xD

I like it.

I love the linework. :rainbowkiss:

Why do I feel like Rainbow is staring into my soul? :twilightoops:
And I'll never figure out why their hooves look like that.
Ah whatever, I'll always visualize the ponies in Xeno to look a lot like the ponies in the show.
Just bigger and slightly more realistic, although this new cover pic is close.

I like it, but I can't help but to agree with some of the other comments, the soul staring is rather strong.

Unless you're rocking a Fu Manchu, mustache moves with the lip.

799124 Imagine if he just intensely colored their eyes and nothing else :pinkiecrazy:
Anyways, I think I like it better this way.
I approve.:moustache:

fix his nosemouth region, he looks like a creepy rapist.

799389 It did. He has crinkles in his cheeks.

look at dat nosemouth

800672 Where'd you find that picture of me?! :twilightoops:

I think what I liked best about the old art was that it was in sketch form instead of line art. And without shading/coloring, sketches always win in my book, but that's just me.

It's a little cleaner. I kinda like it.
