Winter Update for Sunset of Battle

Going to be a short update.

Chapters 15 and 16 are in the final editing phases now. I'm waiting to publish anything however until after chapters 17 and 18 are done so I have the latitude to tweak 15 and 16 as needed. Once the current story arc is finished I'll start posting the chapters on a weekly basis.

    That is all...

    Like I said; short update.

    XD

    A minor alteration...

I made a minor edit to the most recent chapter. There were two little words that had become a massive pain in my arse working on the next chapter. They were, 'to her'. :twilightangry2: It was leading to rabbit holes of character arguments that spiraled into hellish domains where finding a feasible 'out' for Sunset grew dire indeed. After several attempts I've decided to just rip out the root

Nearing the end of Schola Arc, and future planning.

So, as I begin to near the final rise in action for the schola arc of Sunset of Battle I'm looking more and more ahead to what I want to do with the story and where to go next. My general plan is to do a time-skip to when they are novitiates and start the next arc in-media res. But what to do and who to have as the antagonists?

How plans change · 9:35am Jan 23rd, 2013

So, this time yesterday I made a blog asking for peoples opinions on if I included a fairly common ship in Myths. Thinking things over, I've come to a few realizations today.

A: The question was unfair. It spoils if I do go ahead, and teases if I don't. It's kind of a jerk move.

B: I'm lonely without any of my brothers and just would like to chat, so I tossed something out hoping to start a conversation. One I then swiftly backed away from. That is classic Troll behaviour. So I am a Jerk and a Troll.

C: I'm doing it again right now. So I am a Jerk-Troll who doesn't learn from his mistakes. :facehoof:

Any ways, I've decided to scrap the idea of doing a full sub-plot ship. Reasons include:

Word space required. Myths is already going to go much longer than I anticipated I'm already begining to contemplate cutting off the Rarity and 'Finale' Arks (4 and 5, respectively) and instead having them as a sequel because otherwise Myths will be in the 'Too Bucking Long' category. Blocking out how much space I'd need to dedicate and then double that number because that seems to be my normal amount of underestimating showed me it's just too much words required. Chapter 9 is already weighing in at 12k words. Adding seeds of FlutterMac would either mean pushing parts to Chapter 10, or going as high as 15 or 16k words for a single chapter. That is wholly unacceptable to me.

Unfamiliarity with writing shipping. I don't know anything about romance; both in terms of practical experience and in writing experience. I just wont be able to pull it off while also juggling everything else going on in Myths.

Could have sworn I had more than those reasons... Any who, I should log and head to bed before I make a bigger fool of myself. Maybe I should stop bloging when I am bleary eyed with the sleepies.

Look, here's a suggestion: Continue generating pony words in the way you were previously, and we can continue reading them.

:derpytongue2:
If you want to chat, your readers are always up for it. Pick some people who've been obviously following and enjoying your work and send a random message :twilightsheepish:

My suggestion: keep writing, I'll keep reading.
Personally, i dont care how long good stories are, because reading is what i do best. It's what i do when im bored, happy, sad, mad, lonely……you get the point. Just keep going.

How long exactly is too long?

You aren't a troll for wanting to converse.

Maybe I'm weird... I like long fics; the longer the better, especially with yours because you've set up set up such a kickass world that I'd love to see more of. My only fear is that it doesn't get finished.

As for splitting this off Myths into two separate fics, (which is what you do when writing a sequel, yes?) I don't see the point. This is all one story so keep it all together. There is some merit to splitting a story off into several installments in the "real" world but those mostly stem from making money.

I still don't really have and comment of substance on the shipping

742643 Well, honestly it depends on three to four things: The story itself, the author, the reader, and occasionally where the author decides to cut something off at.

Take Shire Folk's Kingdom Hearts epic "The Annals of Darkness" it is currently at a word count of 1,620,411 words, split into three stories. Note however that that word count is actually ALOT lower then it should be, as the first part of the first story was re-written in a seperate story (labeled as v.2.0) and I currently do not have time to adjust part one's word count to account for the changes, but it raises the word count by ATLEAST a further 28K. the third part being more then 1.5 times the length of parts 1 and 2 combined. the total word count of the saga is more then 3X that of the Complete Lord of the Rings Saga. (meaning the Single volume hard back that is Fellowship, Towers, and Return combined into one book, with over a hundred pages of reference material including language dictionaries of the various races of middle earth and a bunch of other crap)
and yet it does not feel like it is dragging on to much simply because the story is extremely engaging, switches perspectives to other characters to tell different aspects of the story, well written, etc.

I would write more but I have to go now. I may finish this rant later.

I agree with ClockworkMage:

"Continue generating pony words in the way you were previously, and we can continue reading them."

And I'm a fan of FO:E, you can toss a 40K words chapter at me and I will read it, and like it! :twilightblush:

742643 742552

I'm not planning on stopping, but I do worry often about 'losing' the spark that has made Myths fun so far. I fall into that type of author, the ones who fret and wring their hands continually about their plots and plans and technical aspects of their writing.

742816

Wow, yeah, that is way too long in my eyes. :twilightoops:

742575

It's rarely so simple. :fluttershysad::twilightoops:

Awwww... well that's alright. I don't mind, so don't beat yourself up about it alright? :twilightsheepish:
Looking forward to your updates but don't worry about it! Okey dokey lokey?!

my opinion is the longer the book/story the better IF the "quality" stays acceptable
but that is only my part but till now you did a very good job with myths

sincerly
Nightmare Gun

First of all A, B, and C made me chuckle a bit, second of all it is completely understandable... although the category of too bucking long confuses my brain!

Good. You shouldnt be fretting so much.
I know u cant really help it, but know that there are quite a few people who like, and want, long chapters and long stories.
Like me:twilightsmile:

Take as much space and time as you need. People who truly like your story will stick with it. if they don't like it that way they will leave on their own accord. Just do what feels correct to you. As long as you are satisfied, you can deal with whatever.

If it is getting too long, I'd suggest breaking it up a little, if you can. Split the story into two(or more) parts, thereby giving you wiggle room when it comes to space, as well as more neatly segregating the arcs. IIRC CvBrony is/was planning on doing a similar thing with Rites of Ascension.
