Regarding pre/proofreaders · 9:50pm Jan 22nd, 2013
Okay so, way way back after I posted chapter four, I was trying to get Sharing the Night posted on Equestria Daily and went to the proofreaders' group to get some help. I eventually ended up proofing chapters one through four myself, though I did arrange to have a proofreader for future chapters. Then, as we all know, I kind of sort of stopped releasing chapters. Then of course came Christmas and the release of chapter five, which I posted mere hours after the last words were written, so pre/proofreading wasn't really an option.
Now, a little less than a month later, I'm calling chapter six 'done' at about 12,600 words, and I have some options. Clearly, I could go back and contact the person who graciously offered to help me previously. It would be a little awkward, but that's fine. What seems to make much more sense, though, is to simply ask for volunteers from the list of people who already have a vested interest in Sharing the Night and in particular those of you who have seen fit to 'watch' my account.
This, then, is me doing that. I'm looking for a handful of people to help me by pre-reading and/or proofreading chapter six in the immediate future, and hopefully future chapters as well. Primarily, I am looking for proofreaders as I have a history of small errors, but I will also consider pre-readers provided they don't just want an early look at the chapter; it'll be out soon enough.
After making this post, I'll be going through all my old comments and private messages to make sure all reported errors with chapters one through five have actually made it from google docs to fimfiction. While doing so, I'll be noting who those corrections came from and those people will in general get priority if they show interest. To show interest, all you have to do is either respond to this post saying so or send me a private message saying so—that's it.
If you thought this blog post should have had headers and bullet points outlining exactly what is going on, you missed the point—I want people who like to read my inane rambling
Edit: As of Noon EST today (2013-01-23), I've picked three people to start with, giving priority to those with a combination of previous comments and previous proofreading experience. Since this is an ongoing project, I'm not going to "close" submissions or anything, so if you got here late or I didn't choose you, I may still ask for more help in the future. We'll see.
Though I've only asked three people for their help as of now, I do of course appreciate all the responses I've gotten, both here and in PM. I certainly would have liked to be able to simply let everyone who wants to pre-read, pre-read, but this is the choice I made in the interest of keeping the delay until posting low, and the communication personal. Still, thanks to everyone who responded and/or applied.
While I would like to help, I'm afraid my proofreading abilities are not on par with the level of your story. So, gonna pass the offer.
So, why do I even answer? I have no idea!
Though you are definitely going to be drowning in positive replies...
I might be interested; it's just checking for grammar and spelling mistakes, right?
I could probably do it for you but my punctuation is shit so probably no your best bet.
Still my help is offered.

Essentially, yes. Grammar, spelling, tenses, punctuation and direct story conflicts are my primary concern. Nobody is perfect, of course, which is why I'll be asking more than one person to help me.
I've [sic*] volunteer, but I'm pretty much dyslexic. You probably want someone else to spot small errors.
*I meant "I'd". See what I mean?
Reading inane ramblings is only half the reason I follow people! The other half is for the stories themselves.
Joking aside, I'd like to help you by pre-reading for you if you'll have me. However, I'm limited to the tablet I'm typing from, as my computer is currently unavaliable, which might slow any response from me.
Good luck to those selected!
I'm no professional (I read a lot and occasionally write technical documentation), but as you're looking for multiple pre/proofreaders I'd be glad to help.
I'd like to volunteer. (Also, yay! You're still back!)
To be redundant, I sent a PM your way. : )
I'd love to help proofread if you still need someone.
740291 Sounds good then, count me in. Are you going to PM me with the details or something?
740408
I got it, don't worry

I'll be communicating via PMs for now, yes. I'm going to give people a bit of a chance to actually see this post before making any announcements, though

I like redundancy though!
Tempted to give StN another read. And a 12,600 word chapter. Droolin a pinch over here. How long did it take you to write up, if you don't mind me asking? I've found that I can only average about 2,000 words in a day, maybe a bit more if I literally do nothing else that day.
I am great at proofreading for gammar, I have done so for various other fics and would be honored to do it for you. Send me a pm if you need me.

I couldn't really give an hour value. I've technically been "working" on it since shortly after chapter five came out (Ie. Christmas), but it's rare that I'm able to write for a solid day. Often I'll get stuck deciding how exactly to phrase a particular thing so that it actually works in the mood/details of the narrative, and that can hold me up for days. It's not the best system
I'm not really confident enough to proofread, but I'll keep an eye put for any errors that get into the released version.
I would be interested.
I would be interested. I am always glad to offer my services to anybody, and would not hesitate in helping you, If that is okay by you.
I could take on another story, why not? Plus yours is one of my favorites, so I'd say I qualify for having a vested interest.
Once I'm done prereading/editing for The Incredibly Embarrassing Parents of Rainbow Dash I could head on over.
I'll send a PM for redundancy's sake.
i would be more then willing to help with the process
As this is one of the few current stories with shipping I have interest in I would be willing to proofread. However I am on vacation till the 27th if that is ok.
I have proofread much in the past and preread for a few stories too. I have a proofreading list on my FiMFiction page.
I would be more than willing to help out. I have pre/proofread many stories, and am trying to write one of my own. I'm unemployed at the moment, so I'm almost always around, feel free to pm me, or reply.
I'm willing to proofread. Whoo, reading Sharing the Night yet again is on my to do list tomorrow now.
Lol, so many people volunteering. Just goes to show how awesome the brony community is. Count me in. I'd love to do some proof reading or Pre reading for your story.
Would have loved to help, but 'm currently fully booked as an editor.
You could note me down as someone to fall back on in a pinch. For example when a couple of your regular proofreaders aren't available. Although be warned, I'm wordy and I go into full editor mode as soon as I'm presented with a story.
I'd like to help. I'm no professional but I can spot small errors, however I suck at punctionationonon.
I'm a failure at proofreads I just give encouragement or helpful criticism
